Mike Harvey's Supergold expanding?

Don62 said:
So... did Mike's show expand? Is it carried anywhere nightly?

Until very recently Harvey's shows ( both Supergold and his weeknight show ) was carried on WICL-FM Cool 95.9 in Hagerstown, Maryland. However WICL dropped that show ( and Dick Clark's Rock Roll and Remember ) as well as dump just about all of its airstaff in order to pick up Scott Shannon's True Oldies. Even though True Oldies sounds pretty good even than may not last either as there is a strong rumor going around in that part of the country that come September once West Virginia University begins their foodball season WICL will go all sports as "Sports Radio 95.9".

Shows like Harvey's aren't on the air much anymore. They sound so generic and vanilla, playing very little '60s and loading them up with disco and Abba-type songs.

News for you, don62- these syndicated shows can't be all about the 60s anymore or they'll be out of business. Didn't you catch the memos recently that 50s/60s-based Oldies has begun to fade away (like, 5 years ago)?

The failure of his late 70s- mid-80s "oldies" show to catch on shows the foolishness in believing that "oldies" from that era would catch on as much as the superior 50s and 60s music.

If you think songs from Madonna, Rick Springfield, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, et. al. are going to have even a fraction of the listeners of the real oldies format, I gotta bridge for sale...

Yep. Play the big hits of that 80s era that have been played ad nauseum on FM mix stations and lite rock stations since then. That's bound to be a recipe for success.

Not if you play ALL songs from the 80s, as you're intimating. But to weave one in per hour, sure. The traditional "oldies" format, as it's been known for the past 20+ years (late 50s to early 70s) is D-E-A-D for everyday programming. The audience for that music, 60+ years old, is not on the radar for advertisers-they are not using radio to target 60+ listeners.

Doesn't matter whether we like it, agree with it or anything. It is what it is.
