MIKE NO LONGER JOCKLESS?

If you think there are too many rock stations in town, chk out the thread about to ODS to talk rumor. We would have too many TALK stations! CBS denies it. Would a ChUrban, urban AC etc work?
Only if it could bring higher ratings than what 103.3 usually gets now, despite the huge slip they just had.
But we'll have to watch them--and also keep an eye on Mike, which may either benefit or lose listeners
depending on the decision to add DJs. (I should add that the want ad they put out emphasizes they want personalities that don't take too much away from the music. Which means no long talk breaks, get back to the music but talk briefly to add 'personality')

As for Mike's music mix, that is what brought them fairly good ratings and they may not want to change it all that much. Mike's attraction for some is the basic more music NO talk; now they will have SOME talk.
Will it help? Hurt? Stay the same?

maybe? It might be possible. He was most recently on Sunday afternoons on WXLO 104.5 from Worcester, Ma
So that could be possible.
I still think this whole Host on Mike FM idea is wrong. They should change to AC/HOT AC (But focus on New Urban AC as well, and New Country Slow Jams, and New Soft Dance Music) call it ??? "93.7 The Point" , or ???? "My 93.7" , or "KOZI 93.7" have both Syndicated and Local Hosts
Program Management Personal at Entercom has to do something.
Not everyone like Rock and Roll music!!!

Fact remains that Entercom will do whatever they want, and presumably what they think is best for them.

IPODS are a wonderful thing. HD radio isn't half bad as far as choices go.

If you've been listening for awhile to MIKE you know it's really a Rock (Classic) station, playing occasionally a "Class Hit" (Soft Classic Rock).

And if you're still listening, you must like the music (and those sappy voice drops ins).

Playing everything...EVERYTHING...is a real spooky thought. Pete Seeger and Bob Seger...KC and The Sunshine Band and Bob Donaldson. Seasons In The Sun and Seasons of The Witch. The Ballard of Bonnie and Clyde....Life Is a Rock and The Radio Rolled Me...THE NIGHT CHICAGO DIED....

And bill for advertising at the same rates than 103.3 does now, which doesn't always depend on raw audience numbers. Rock is a money demographic -- look at Sirius XM: a half dozen urbans, four countrys, one Latino music (tropical) ... and 15 rock channels! They know what brings in listeners with disposable income, just as commercial radio in Boston knows what brings in the advertisers.

WODS would never flip to talk. If anything they'd flip to Rhythmic CHR or a simulcast of WBZ AM. I know 1030 is a blowtorch and rates great without an FM counterpart but no one demographically desireable listens and sooner or later that will slump sales. The Talk format in Boston is already overcrowded, WBZ AM is a talker at night, and none of the talkers really get stellar ratings. Why dive into a pool with shallow water?

As far as a CHR format on WODS goes, I think it could do great as long as it is executed right, and there isn't significant overlap with MIX.

Ask the geniuses at Coca Cola who decided to change their formula after 99 years of success and got a huge backlash. "Don't
fix what ain't broke."

Coke was broken. Sip test samples told them that Pepsi was a far better product. They reacted to the test and threw out old formula for one that sip tested well. The only problem was, soda isn't sipped. You drink the whole can, and a whole can of New Coke was sickly sweet. Turned people off. The geniuses at Coke trusted the black art of market research and it bit them in the can. I wonder, does radio have something like a sip test that middle managers might blindly follow down a pig trail too? Hmmm... :D

I'd make a snarky comment about the sip tests that conclude that classic hits listeners want to hear "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Unchained Melody" at least once every single workday, or the sip tests than conclude that if a song tests well in the AC format, it must stay on all AC playlists for at least eight months and be played at least twice a day. But the ratings indicate that the listeners want just that, so never mind. ::)

Wouldn't jocks be a tuneout factor in this PPM enrironment? And if so, how would that serve advertisers?

When you have jocks you can have endorsements/testimonials/live reads. These come at a premium and some advertisers ONLY want these types of spots. So I think they are betting that they can generate more revenue even if there is some tune out because of increased chatter.

If your jocks blabber on endlessly, yes. If you can create enough listening occasions and keep the talk to a minimum, no.

yes I do work for them. yes I did leave Program Management Personal my ideas, but no luck. I also left them my ideas last week, so far, no good luck. But I will keep trying and not give up.
Any (good words) good advice will help me. All I'm trying to do is move up in life
