Mike Stevens

I noticed today that Mike Stevens bio is gone from the DRC fm web site. Other than Larry Wells, I think Mike has been at the station the longest, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. Anyone have any info?

I know I'm dreaming, but if DRC-FM was willing to pay me $15000/year to do the morning show, I'd do it. Granted it's not the format I ultimately want to work in, I still like the music and it would get me some expereince on a major FM station.

Being on an FM station, any FM station would be a dream come true for me. You probably don't know this, but last summer I hosted a brokered music show on an AM, who's night time signal is 80 watts.

We all know this. You've mentioned it about four dozen times on here. Not that it is a bad thing, but everyone in Connecticut knows it by now.

Many people have made the leap from Shaw's to morning drive at a mid-major market FM. Keep dreaming.

Was that sarcasm or are you really saying to keep dreaming?? I'm having difficulty determining your tone...lol...

But in all reality, there have been, and there are, people who pick up what some would consider "menial" jobs to pay the bills while waiting for a gig...or even working a part-time radio gig while working at a "menial" job full time.

I personally don't think any job is "menial". They are all necessary to make the world go round (yes, even the McDonald's jobs are important...who would make those incredible Fries we all love so much...)
______________

and judging by your previuos posts, I'll bet it was a spanish format, because according to you thats what this state really needs...just a hunch

The old saying "A Job is a job, you don't appreciate it until you have none".

Damn!!! DRC really blew it hiring John Saville over you. Why would they hire some guy with oldies experience and 20(?) some odd years in the business? If it's any consolation Jay, I'm sure if the PD at DRC had read this board first, he would have gone to corporate and demanded they pony up the 15 grand for your salary. Timing is everything, huh? Why don't you hook up with Oz and produce your own syndicated morning show? It could work.

So, are you speaking for all "Programmers" (ie Program Directors). If you are, what a sad state of radio we are in. It bad enough that the training grounds are drying up. So, with training grounds drying up, where are the Jay Clark's and Oz's supposed to get hands on experience? That's right...PD's should be willing and able to train new talent...but if half have the attitude that you do...I guess EVERYONE wanting to get a start may as well give up now. Or are you a CSB grad? That would explain alot too...having paid for "experience". (If one can call it that)...

Jay stated that he was "*dreaming*"...which means he understands the sitch (oh, that's short for situation...apparently) At least Jay is honest about his experience and doesn't try to be something he is not like a few others that have been known to pass through the "Radio-Info" boards. At least Jay is not always asking people to email him so he can "consult" for them.

Maybe for once some words of encouragement would be nice. Jay brokered time once in order to get more experience. That's alot more than I can say for many whiners around here. At least he tried to make something of himself. Is he suddenly the next Rick Dees? Hardly...but he's run a board, selected his music, taken calls/requests...Plus he is very knowledable about the history of CT Radio. In time, he'll find his place, especially if he sticks with it and doesn't get discouraged by remarks like that...

Sorry for being harsh...it's just annoying that people prefer to be negative rather than positive. If Jay was trying to be something he is not, I would react differently...but he's been honest. How about some positive advice? Maybe you know of a board op shift he could apply for...or something...anything other than smart a$$ insults...
______________

But Cab, smart ass insults are what I do best. Just a quick note now to answer a few of those pressing issues you have presented. I know what a program director is so don't attempt to patronize me. Doesn't work. CSB? Are you f*cking serious? I wouldn't suggest the least talented person go there, so no, I'm not a CSB grad. I do however have 20 years experience in radio.(Most of it on-air) In fact, there was a brief time when I was employed in Los Angeles. **Caution- Patronizing comment coming**** You know L.A. right? Market #2.Just checking. Next. The Jay Clarks and Ozmans of the world are to start off interning, and working part-time in the smaller markets, NOT doing a morning show in Hartford. Surely you can appreciate that. Look, I don't wish them any bad luck. In fact, I hope they eventually realize their dreams and make it as big as they can in this business. I don't mind helping out new talent,in fact I get a kick out of it. Just ask Kane down at WFLZ in Tampa. Best of luck to any and everyone who wishes to make radio their career. It's a small world and maybe someday Oz just might be the one to hire me for a primo gig.
