"Million Dollar Money Drop" on Fox

Did anyone watch this new game show last night? The concept is a bit different than most other game shows in that people get all their money up front but then need to wager it based on how confident they are in their answers to the questions. The questions seemed surprisingly easy to me, although the people left with only 80k. But typical of most other game shows, it's dragged out with too many commercials between questions. Not interesting enough to keep me watching.

I think these type of shows where they spend 5 minutes on one question have
just about run their course. Who wants to hear these people's life stories and
meet their uncle, cousin and granny?

Give me the faster pace of JEOPARDY and WHEEL any day of the week.

It would be a whole lot better if one person can play this game instead of two; and I love to see all of the money to be distributed in all 3-4 multiple choice areas. And I also like to see this game show to take place in Las Vegas, where people loses all of their money-all the time.

Never seen it, but I think I will try and catch it tonight, (Wed). Not sure if it is a repeat from earlier this week.

You never have anything positive to post on this board.

I remember gregg75 asking questions most of the time. Neither positive nor negative.

Besides, is there a rule that posts must be positive some percentage of the time? This is a discussion board so it stands to reason that there will be both, usually from a variety of posters but not always.

Back to this post though and gregg is saying he prefers one style of game show over others. I don't see that as either a positive or negative, just his opinion.

I don't know about this show, I haven't seen it yet.

But I have noticed lots of people on internet forums seem to be focusing on "positive/negative" remarks lately, and judging comments solely on the "positive/negative" spectrum.
Even if the remark isn't about them or their statements, they personalize it a lot of times.
In most cases, what they should be focusing on is the "true or untrue" aspect of the remarks and building from there.
For example, I could add "Bless your heart" here and it would be "positive" but it would be sarcastic, so is it really "positive?" Umm, no.

Quick review, IMO:

Interesting questions. Too much focus on one contestant (couple). The drop is anti-climatic. Host is capable, but certainly background. Best part seems to be the conflict between the couple on what to do. The rules change throughout the game, can be a bit complicated in that sense. I would give it a solid B minus, and wouldn't expect this to be around for long. Is this just filler until Idol begins?

I never heard of it until I read about a couple who answered a question correctly and lost the money anyway. So when are they gonna get paid?

I did not see the show but according to a story in the MSM yesterday the way the question was worded (something like "when were Post-It Notes first sold?" resulted in an incorrect response by the contestant. According to 3M (who manufactures the product) they were first distributed two years earlier as a test. But the questions was when were they first sold.

There is a 2-hour episode on tonight at 8. Then I'm not sure if it's coming back next week.

As searadiofreak mentioned, it is probably a filler for "Idol".

I recorded the one (Tuesday?) with the $80,000 winners. I will say that it's best watched on VCR/TiVo/whatever. I can be done in 7 minutes.

I do agree with gregg75. I think it's amazing that Alex Trebek can actually get the Jeopardy! boards "cleared" so often, even with commercial time added since 1984.....even Art Fleming couldn't do that! People should be watching for the gameplay, not the yak yak or the drumrolls.... We have WWE for that. :)

Oh....why hasn't the US secured rights for *this* show? --->

There's tension!

You could say it was sort of tried...there were about 50 or so episodes of a "money clock" type show called How Much is Enough on GSN about three or four years ago with Corbin Bernsen as the host. The only exceptions were: Four people competed against each other, in even numbered rounds the "clock" ran down towards 0 instead of going up towards a target amount in the other rounds, and the show's set was almost more expensive than the biggest possible payout!

The question was not when they were first sold, but whether they came before the walkman. When challenged it was discovered that post it notes in fact were marketed two years earlier than walkman; however, only in limited markets.

I didn't state that very well, and, the story keeps changing.

You are correct in that the question was a comparison between the Walkman and Post-It Notes first being sold. 3M first reported that Post-It Notes were "distributed" two years earlier in four test markets. Now they say they were actually sold but not as Post-It Notes but by another name ("Press and Pull" or something similar). Very confusing.

So Fox has decided the only correct thing to do is redo the contest and the couple has been invited back on the show.
