Missing stations

Several empty spots now on the AM band in greater Houston.

KGOL 1180 is now off. Once the sale to Rehan Siddiqi closes, a new transmitter site will have to be built. This will take some time depending on whether 1180 is diplexed with another station or a new site is built, perhaps involving a COL change. Guessing 1180 will be gone for quite some time.

KEYH 850 is still off, and Estrella Media has requested an extension of the silent STA. Anyone know what might be in store here, if anything? Sibling KJOJ 103.3 is also still off the air with no resolution in sight. Is it really worth the $$$ to Estrella to revive either station, or should they sell the licenses to a greater fool to accomplish anything…?

I notice that KJOZ 880 has been off for at least a few days. Something to do with the impending ownership change?

And somewhat outside the immediate Houston market, I haven’t heard Wharton’s KANI 1500 on the air in quite a while. Don’t see any silent STA for this, any ideas?

K240FC and KJHJ still aren’t on the air. KJHJ hasn’t been on the air since April and I just found out they have a CP for 94.9. I wonder if K240FC would take 102.5 since I have no idea who would be able to listen to that translator on 106.5.

850 is for sale $150K. No equipment. No site. Anybody wants it, you have a little less than 3 months to apply for an STA and get it on the air before cancellation of the license on 1/1/22. Contact Brian Kei at Estrella in Burbank, CA.

I don’t see how anyone could do that, as you would have to get FCC approval for any sale, then the new owner would have to obtain a site and apply for a CP, then actually acquire equipment and get it on the air. Probably not doable in only 11 weeks. Estrella is likely not going to spend a single penny to keep KEYH alive.

KJOJ probably has some modest value, any word on that from Estrella?

No, sir. Have not heard anything about KJOJ

It's owned by Martin Broadcasting... does being off and not reported really surprise you?

Does anybody know why the city of license for the KANI translator is Lufkin even though it’s really far from Lufkin? Also if I remember correctly that translator sounded terrible but had RDS.

it was probably moved from lufkin to pair with KANI and translators have no requirement to cover any of their city of license

I had also noticed K290CD in Lufkin has a city of license of Huntsville

How about KHTW 1300 in Beaumont? I guess that one's still dark.

I had it on for a long time.. but I told my broker if Carlos does not get it back on soon, I will file involuntary xfer of control and take it back. I've had enough of this
that is the most ridiculous idea i have ever read on here.. if i remember correctly you sold him a station that was off the air.. so it really falls on you.. you gave him a broken station that had very little chance of coming back on the air without a massive investment that i am sure boy carlos had no idea.

You have almost no chance of getting it back. When a station is being sold and there is money owed, you LMA it until paid. Once a sale is consumated and the transfer done, the FCC considers it a done deal and will not get involved in any civil issues.
