Mix 107.7 Improving!

Is it just me or does Mix 107.7 sound much better lately? I've noticed them adding stuff that they would've NEVER touched just a year ago like the new tune by Far East Movement and at least they've finally decided to play Rihanna as well as Cee-Lo Green. It sounds like they're down to 1-2 80s tunes an hour. The only thing i'd change is the 80s tunes they play. I'd play more upbeat 80s like "Right On Track" by The Breakfast Club or "Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds, but they seem to save those for the Time Warp Cafe. Nothing wrong with the 80s, it's just there's only so many times folks can hear "Faithfully" or "Jessie's Girl" before they want to regurgitate it.

As long as Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gag are being played every hour, I can't listen.
Lady Gaga I can give a pass, but the Black Eyed Peas have GOT TO GO! "I've Gotta Feeling" is beyond overplayed on Mix. No song on Mix is as bad as Train's "Marry Me". The station gets switched quick when that song comes on. Ugh.
I wonder if this sudden switch can be attributed to the rumor that Main Line will be launching a Modern AC called "Click 101.5" sometime in the next millenia.

Mix has 3 big problems as I see it. 1. Fly 929 2. Click 1015 3. Their lame DJ's that put listeners to sleep. Jeff and Chrissy are a talk fest of nothing in the morning, oh and don't forget fake British guy. Give it a rest with the accent, how long have you been in America? Say goodbye to Mix and hello to the new contenders!

Mix sounds decent ON OCCASSION... however, they're still stuck in the 80s. Unless they're one of those markets where 80s-sounding Hot AC's work??? Sike!

lovejamminoldies, you hit the nail on the head here! What has Mix's "Big things" been in the last two weeks? An "80s Tournament" online to see who was the most popular band in the 80s? WHO CARES! This is 2011! Then this week they were broadcasting from the Bahamas for three days(Two they were live, the last they were VERY obviously voice tracked-That's why they had Ryan Phillips doing traffic updates and time checks). They even went on the air on Thursday and said that people thought that their broadcasting from the Bahamas was SO CLEAR that listeners actually thought that they were broadcasting from the Oregon District. Sounds like they think their listeners brains are "Clear" as well. Their next big thing is their "Time Warp Prom". Time Warp this, Time Warp that...GET WITH THE TIMES! The demos for folks that want to hear 80s music are going up and up. 80s music belongs on Classic Hits and Adult Hits stations, not on Hot AC stations.

You know... I listened to Mix a little earlier and heard Far East Movement and Bruno Mars and then they go back to playing the same tired tracks like Peter Gabriel. I'm all for sprinkling some '80s in for flavor once an hr or so like Mix 1079 in Columbus, but Hot AC at this point should be CHR without the rhythmic... I don't understand how you go from Katy Perry to Donna Lewis.... however, Mix did add some tracks that they had never played before last night... probably reacting a bit to Click.

I have to agree. I was listening one morning and these guys talked about a chicken sandwich for like five minutes. Everything is an inside joke with these guys and way too much small talk goes on without any planned bits or interviews. The station seems, a lot of times, like Jeff Steven's personal jukebox. How else would you explain all of the Rick Springfield, Night Ranger and St. Elmo's Fire. (It is 2011 for Pete's sake!!!!) Mix could be really good again but it would take a commitment to new music and a wantingness to get out of the 80's that I do not think exists. But hey, have fun with that Time Warp Prom. :)

The folks at Mix must be in denial. Their "base" has eroded over the past 2 years. A red flag in my opinion. You can't be stuck in a "timewarp"! Changes have to be made if they are to survive (IMO)

Why is it that everyone on this board gets that Mix needs to change with the times except for the folks that run Mix? We on this board may sound like a bunch of Mix haters, but we're just pointing out the obvious. Like ljo said earlier, Mix needs to be a Rhythmic-less CHR and lose the 80s IMMEDIATELY. This station goes from Far East Movement, Rihanna, Nelly, and Cee-Lo Green right back to the old, stale John Parr, Rick Springfield, Journey, Pat Benetar, and Hall and Oates songs that the audience burned out on long ago. WHY?!? JS HAS to know his station needs to change. If not, Mix will drop into the 3s. Fly has already drug them down into the 4s. I'm sure Click will do more damage than some folks on this board would like to admit. We'll see.

I just wonder how the "decision makers" at Mix allow a morning show to play...maybe just 2 songs... over 30 minutes in drive time. Do they really like to hear themselves talk? At least give us some substance...like the Bob and Tom show.

Mark, I agree...they talk a great deal between 6:30-9 AM. All they talk about is stale Hollywood news and American Idol, and my least favorite, plugging stupid stuff on the website. I understand you have to plug your website, but not 1,000 times an hour. It makes me wonder, are they plugging their website to cover up their lack of things to talk about? Sheesh.
I still say that Click will put a dent in Mix's audience that is sick and tired of the same old, same old over there. Mix is surrounded by Fly and Click. All Click has to do is steal 1 ratings share and Mix will drop into the 3s. Fly has already done damage to Mix. Now Click will swoop in and steal more listeners. I'm sure there are a few "Clicked" off people over at CC/Dayton lol.

What's that I hear?....A loud Click throughout the Dayton area when the remaining Mix listeners Fly to a better choice of radio stations. LOL

Wow - can't believe the Hot AC in Dayton still plays Hall & Oates and Rick Springfield lol - no wonder they're starting up a Modern AC cross-town

Yep, they certainly do play quite a few 80s tunes. Mix, as well as The X, left a huge format hole for Main Line to fill with Modern AC. Click plays some of Mix's music, as well as stuff The X USED to play back before they started playing all that screaming Active stuff, along with some other stuff like Cage The Elephant and Mumford and Sons.
I'm sure if Mix dumped the 80s, it wouldn't hurt them. I like 80s music, but it's starting to belong on a Fly or Eagle-type station, not a Hot AC. Mix just needs freshening up, that's all. Competition is good for everyone. I always look at competition as a good thing, since it makes everyone up their game and not rest on their laurels. Hopefully, this will make Mix up their game and dump the 80s for a fresher sound. Time will tell.

Mix should go country and give K-99 some competition. They have a strong enough signal to do so. Lite should migrate to more Hot AC. I wouldn't make Lite country beacuse it is too close to K-99 and that would screw with diaries.

A fresh change? How about a complete makeover! They need to "blow it up"! It's a shame that a signal like 107.7 has fallen do far and so fast in the ratings. I guess that's what happens when you "take your eye off the ball".
