MIX 1079 - BEST SOUNDING STATION IN COLUMBUS

Mix 107.7 also plays "Single Ladies". The old Mix 97.1 used to play "Hollaback Girl".
 
Yeah... well I like the "Today's Best Mix" idea that 1079 brought over. There's only one 80s/90s tune an hr now and it sounds much more clean and I like it a lot better than WNCI.

I Respect You opinion too! But Power 107.5 is not a urban AC. It is a CHR RYTHIMIC station. it's play top 15 billboard pop/hip hop/ RnB. Urban AC is

1. top 40 hip hop/RnB,

2. top mixtape jams hip hop/RnB. (songs on mixtape market)

3. DJ mix shows ( songs that where popular in the clubs)

4. 90's and early 2000's 2 hour flashback!

So technically Columbus don't have a Urban AC! In my opinion Lady Ga Ga is not urban. Black Eye Peas doesn't make urban music. urban is Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Kayne, ICe Cube, Lupe Fiasco,Dipset,bone thugs.

basiclly anything not on the top 10.

Where do you come up with "only one 80s/90s tune an hr now"? In the 4pm hour today they played You Oughtta Know, What I Am and Hey Jealousy. Release dates for those range from 1989-1995. But I'm not saying they haven't cut back at all on the 80's/90's.

TJ is a very, very smart programmer and a personal friend of mine. But with all due respect, he hasn't spent a lot of time with Mix 1079 since he took over last fall. Hollaback Girl was part of our original library when we signed on last January, and last February, Single Ladies was one of the first currents we added.

That sentiment is a nice change from back in the 90's when Don Hallett at WSNY and Dave Robbins at WNCI had less-than-complimetary things to say about each other, even to the press!

Yeah, but is that really fair to say? WNCI and Sunny are heritage. WNCI and Sunny have great signals. Mix 97.1 beat Sunny in the books before they flipped, so we know Hot AC works in this market. I think Saga will have the best ratings with 1079 than they will with any of their other formats.
 
It's easy to predict their ratings when they don't pay for Arbitron anymore. Look, why would anyone want to listen to a bunch of static on Mix when they can hear a lot of the same songs (not to mention that all the Rhythmic songs that Mix won't touch) on WNCI and their 175,000 watt signal?
 
Mix's signal is not THAT bad in my opinion. It struggles in offices though. Most Hot AC's are more current these days anyway in other markets, and those stations BEAT the CHR in most cases. So does that mean the reason Mix struggles is because of their signal? The programming is good.
 
Their signal isn't bad if you live on the north side of town and that's about it. As far as the format is concerned, Hot AC wasn't so hot when it was on a better signal at 97.1. Jammin, you should know I'm not a big fan of WNCI but at least they're a CHR and CHR's play all of today's best music, not just some of it. Remember that old slogan? That's where I have a problem with Hot AC.
 
Problem:

CHR is getting more Rhythmic... that means less Hot AC songs will crossover to CHR. AC isn't current enough for Hot AC artists like Rob Thomas, Lifehouse, Michael Buble, Train - where do they get their music played? Hot AC.
 
It doesn't matter if nobody is listening bud. If WNCI out of all CHR's is getting more Rhythmic then they probably have a better feel for what this market needs. WNCI has leaned Hot AC/Adult CHR for the last 20+ years so what does that tell you?
 
It's nice to see a spirited, intelligent debate here. You both make great points, but with its rimshot signal, Mix will never be a serious player in the market. That's a bummer because it does sound good.

It must be all the snow we got. It does something for the soul. ;)

WNCI is on at work all day long and Jammin isn't lying when he says it's repetitive (excruciatingly repetitive if I may say so myself) which of course is the way of CHR but I want to issue you a challenge Mr. Florentino. I challenge you to take WNCI to the next level. Why not throw in some re-mixes from time to time and not kill certain songs to death? How about we get an hour of what you play on your HD2 channel every day? Make WNCI fun and fresh and become a leader of the format once again rather than a follower. If it works then fantastic, if not then it's still WNCI, you have lost nothing.
