Mix 1079 getting hotter?

"Black Music" Italian Music" has nothing to do with it. What defines black music anyway?

Black music sounds like crap to me. It is jarring to my ears.

The "Italian Music" appeals to the sensibilities of the east coast ethnic diaspora. I'm sure someone has a radio name for this genre, but to me this is the person who listens to the music and it is upbeat/dance ... easy on the black stuff.

Z-93 (in its heyday) = good = upbeat without going too ghetto

Wild 93.9 = good = surprised to find such a station in corn country

Hot 105 = too ghetto for my tastes = too much Bel Biv Devoe, too much Vanilla Ice, etc.

Power 107.5 = I would rather be waterboarded.

What we need is a dance leaning CHR that's high energy and fun. Basically what you hear on Club NCI 24 hours a day. iHeartRadio has a fantastic station called Spin Cycle that even has a mixshow featuring DJ Gonzo and Nathan Tyler from Columbus.

Music shouldn't be put into a category like "black music" or "italian music" and I've even heard "white music"... come on.

Never heard Z93 in its heydey... but the Z93 I grew up on wasn't upbeat, it was more adult CHR.
Wild 939 is no more... they are now 939 Kiss FM and it's Premium Choice CHR piped out of LA and Pittsburgh.
Hot 105... once again was too young, but I've heard good things about it. Since when is BBD and Vanilla Ice "ghetto"?
Power 1075 has gotten a lot worse since they flipped from rhythmic to urban.

WNCI does sound horrible when it comes to music. Always has. Got a little better when Florentino came in, but I've heard MUCH better across the country. They keep hiring MD's who excel in Adult CHR... problem #1. If you're gonna be "All The Hits" and bill yourself as a Mainstream CHR station, play all the hits. Quit being afraid of the rhythmic. You're the only CHR in town. What other option do CHR listeners have? Mix? Most people don't even know Mix exists with it launching with no promotion, no spots, and a horrible signal. Power? Maybe the Power that beat them as Rhythmic CHR. But not the Power with all the urban now.

Keep in mind that a big chunk of Columbus' growth came from adding new counties to the metro. In 1980 the Columbus msa didn't include Licking, Union or Morrow counties as it does today. They currently contribute about 250,000 people (dominated by Licking). Also, I'd imagine a fair amount of local growth comes from Mexican immigrants and other Hispanics, and even Somalis. Not saying that there aren't plenty of immigrants from places like those you cited (I've personally met many), but maybe it's somewhat less than you're thinking. Anyone have any hard stats?

Union was added, and rightfully so. It is part of Columbus as far as I'm concerned. Morrow is a stretch until you look at the counties in the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Indianapolis MSAs. The Indianapolis MSA looks like encompasses about 1/3 of Indiana.

That said, my numbers were pretty close when you consider Franklin and contiguous counties. The 1980 population was 1,243,833, the 2010 population was 1,801,709, a difference of about 560,000.

I was also surprised we had essentially gained a metro the size of Toledo in population over the span of a generation.

Sorry, it's black music to me and it always will be. When you say "urban", you're saying the same thing but trying to be politically correct about it. Same difference.

Mix 107.9 wouldn't be a bad place to try it in my opinion. They would need live DJ's though.

Question, Is Mix 107.9 actually trying to competed with WNCI? Dose anyone like the current format on here?

I like the current Mix 1079 better then before they started fine tuning their Hot AC format last week.

Is this music mix closer to CHR then Hot AC? It's confusing to draw a line between Hot AC and CHR on the new
Mix 107.9.

Spin*Cycle's okay but everytime I listen, just seems like another CHR mixshow to me. I like some that break the rules a little... don't get me wrong, good stuff though!

As far as Mix goes, they haven't really tweaked it since last year when they dropped all the 80's and added more CHR tracks like LMFAO and Usher. They are still not as CHR-sounding as a lot of the Saga Hot AC's are. It's still closer to Hot AC with the Snow Patrol, Colbie Caillat, and Lifehouse they play. However, at night when Billy Bush is on, they play less of the gold, and more of the current stuff like Jessie J, Gym Class Heroes, and Selena Gomez. They play some of that during the day now, but not as much.

Saga is confused. They're trying to be the alternative to CHR without being too hot that they lose those 25-44 soccer mom listeners. Mix never really did any marketing when they launched so they should be happy to get the 2.0 that they'll sometimes crack. I think if they broke this format and went more CHR or Rhythmic, they would raise their share. They already have Sunny AND Rewind catering to that demo, they just expand to age 54.
