I doubt people inquired about FM Sports... I just don't see that being the case, especially in this market. You're right, they were starting to get their morning show together and the imaging and music selection sounded great! The book after they left showed great results for them too, sucks they didn't see that before they flipped.
Mix 107-9 is pretty much screwed no matter what they do. In a case like this where your signal is screwed and the old Mix audience doesn't know about you, you market yourself as the other CHR. You go after the 'NCI audience and convince them you play more music, better music and do that. If I were Saga, I'd maybe even consider switching to a Rhythmic CHR or a "Now" type of CHR similar to what AMP did in Detroit to convince the audience, they're the choice for hit music. Sure, that's a different situation, company, and signal, but what could they possibly be thinking over there at Mix? You're not going to win as the cookie-cutter Hot AC. Be the other CHR!
The Marv,
Good point. They could start stealing women from Saga if they put a Hot AC product on 93-3. But, they're trying to grab those women with Gen X, is it working? I think it's a temporary thing for them. You know what'd be interesting? Even with the XMAS book, 93-3 does poorly against Sunny 95. Florentino needs to be reading this post, it may be time to let the Soft Rock go. I'd love for 93-3 to launch as a Rhythmic AC or CHR... I know I always say that, but I honestly can see it getting much better ratings than it does an AC.
Look, Power 1075 is doing the worst it's ever done... PERFECT timing for a new Rhythmic CHR with a decent signal to jump on this opportunity. Play the hip-hop hits with the Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. "Oh, this can't co-exist with WNCI in the building" - OH YES IT CAN! Clear Channel is changing its ways, look at Detroit. They have Channel 955 and The Beat. Why? So when Channel 955 plays the tired Pink song, they go over to The Beat which is blastin' the new Far East Movement. They want those listeners to stay in that building, not to go over to CBS. CC in Columbus is a bit different though. Not like they need to keep listeners in that building, the WNCI ones don't seem to be going over to Power as much as they were when Power was rhythmic, and Mix 1079 sure isn't a threat. Would be fun to have 933 as a Rhythmic though... I'd sure alternate between the two and forget all about cookie-cutter Power.
