Mix 95.9 Today's Best Music Without The Rap - Really

Much to our dismay, as we continue to attempt an understanding of just what in the Flyin' Fudgecake Ron Roberts is trying to convey, more of his drivel has arrived. First, he admits that...he likes Rap,...only to quickly recant, and claim the gray area of "take it or leave it" nutrallity. That droop in credibility only dropped further, when he used "DJ", as a reference. A "DJ" is someone that spins records, near a dance floor. I, myself, and my peers, are genericly, Broadcasters, professionally, Radio Announcers, and (some)Elitely, Air Talent. So, let's list Ron Roberts, as he refers: He is a DJ, and none of us shall recant.
Also, as a said DJ, he also admits that he has been (fired)"canned". We, here, the members of The Think Tank, will also hold full belief that has been in several cans. Let's give the man credit for what he has done...in his Hip-Hoppin' career.
At the time of our 17-share, there were more than six FM sticks, and 3+ AM's getting it done, as well. There was no Rap then, and if a label even remotely suggested such for airplay, the word NO...would echo in their ears for days.

You sir, are a "professional" nothing; because no "professional" would speak the way you do. You've been replaced by a cornball syndicated morning show, for crying out loud; well BEFORE the radio consolidation craze, I might add. So, uh, let's not point fingers over "credibility," there, oh "legendary one."
 
In addition to a yeast infection, Roberts, you do deserve answers, and you shall have them!
...and I quote, rather easily: "Mackmore & Ryan Lewis have a TERRIFIC album out; spend some time with it. Oh, and the rapper in the group is white.". Readers you can find that test-o-mony, on page 1, reply #5 to this topic, on 5/9. This was part of Ron Robert's 268th post. A TERRIFIC Rap album! My rather colorful rant featured..."Flyin' Fudgecake". Truthfully, at a local eatery, a year or so back, a waitress named Julie, slid forward, due to a spill, and served the afore mentioned desert to the third booth down from who actually ordered it...Nuts, Whipped Cream,...and only God knows just where the Cherry landed!
Our on-air contract ended 12/31/92. We agreed to stay on, while the JB&B equipment was installed. After that, Mike went to Asbury Park, Kevin went to Boston, and both Dr. Mike Allen, and I stayed. I worked behind the scenes promoting JB&B for about a year, before resigning, in February of '94, to open a family retail business. As I said, never fired. So, once again, Roberts, the truth has painted you, and your foolishness into a corner, with your credibility in a coma!
 
I liked the occasional "Little Texas" song back in the 1990s, too, Scoot, but I don't like country. Swing and a miss, again.

I didn't ask for the nuts & bolts of how your dismal fading into history went down, Lesley. I just mentioned that it happened. If you were half the legend you hold yourself to be, you'd not have found yourself left to work at the family retail outlet. Must be going real well; you've got all this time to whittle up all those nonsensical rants you go off on.
 
Ron Roberts, why do you continue to embare-ass yourself? OK, You don't like Country Music...or whatever it is that they are labeling Country these days,...but why would anyone admit that they like Little Texas? One of the worst cookie-cutter, failed Pop band outfits to ever see video. Why didn't you just add Diamond Rio to the list, as well? They made enough money to buy one house, and now they are playing the State Fair circuit, as an Oldies act, as they sail into the Mullett hall of shame. How 'bout Yanni, Roberts? Him too, or that boofy-haired snake charmer, Kenny G. Got any of their CD's? LITTLE TEXAS?

Scooter you need to let people have a opinion about the topic of discussion. So what if a person disagrees with you! I left radio in 2000 because of the pay. I have no hard feelings about the industry as some people do. I listen to all kinds of music (Rap, Country, Pop, Oldies, Classic rock, R&B and Pop). Do you think my credibility shot? No I don't think so. When you reply to a topic please think before you type out a response.

Well,...Well,...let me see if I can clarify: Read this slow, so you can understand it, and not get it wrong. If you are a Consultant, you might orta read it real slow, and several times, at that.
"Mix 95.9...Today's Best Music...Without The Rap". Now, do we all agree that this topic is about said Radio Station? ....and since the tail of their sloan discards something, can we also agree that what they are claiming to discard, was causing them problems. I had made the same point, many years ago, and was quoted in the trades when I said: "Rap is Crap...Merely a product of the record industry, and they want airplay, whether you net ratings or not.". All races are involved in this garbage, and it juvenilizes your sound, to the point of adult listener punch-out. It does not fit with anything, but itself. Someone at Mix 95.9 woke the hell up, and decided...to Program, and not follow the whims of the labels. Sure, tell them what you are playing, but also tell them that you don't need their suggestions. Anyone's credibility?
Sure, listen to whatever you want, but due to what Rap actually is, stating that you like it...is like going to a resturant, and ordering a bowl of dirt! Either way, you look foolish!
 
Snailboy, give up; the once and great Scooter Lesley is the end-all, be-all on what's good and bad about radio and music. It's why he's still. . . oh wait.
 
I have Ron. Clean up on isle 5...Scooter bring the mop and bucket someone is about to give an opinion!
 
At the heart of this thread is rap music? If you consider that music is singing or playing an instrumental song then Rap is not music. If you believe that talking in rhythm is music then Rap is music. If Rap is music then the blending of Rap with other music formats is questionable due to it's very different nature from other musical formats. I can see where adding some ie: music in between Rap to break up the talking format but I can also see where this would lower another format listener wise in a lot of cases. I guess it depends on what the station is going for listener wise and in 95.9's case no Rap in the format is their aim.
 
...and I think their aim is pointless; if you're going to play "hits," then you're going after a 25-54 demographic; now, if you're removing any "rap" from it, you're narrowing that window to, say, 40-54. That's not exactly "broad"casting, but so be it...
 
My objection to the positioner is that it is a negative statement. Why are you telling people what you don't do rather than what you are doing?
 
Well forget credibility being shot, whoever likes rap or believes it's music never had any credibility to begin with. Just because someone throws rap on a station and it turns a profit doesn't mean that said person knows anything about music. Turning a profit and KNOWING music are two mutually exclusive ideas.
 
The worst programmers are hardcore music fans. Unless you are at a college radio station, radio music programming has nothing to do with the art of music appreciation.
 
Please take the time to read the last reply. Here you have one of the purest examples of...know-it-all, yet know...absolutely nothing about radio..."B.O."....Boob Opinion. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hardcore Music Fans, and/or Collectors make the best Programmers, as they are extremely well read on the crucial! Planned, Strategic Programming that delivered success after success. If that Reply Fodder held true then myself, and many of my peers...Prather, Sanders, Allen, Welchel, Evans, Mack, Scott,(& etc........would not have been successful Programmers,...Big ratings, and Big paychecks!!
