Crazzee Carrol and Midwest Clubber;
Yes, that carted version of "Strike It Up" by Blackbox was pitched very high on power 98, I dubbed it in at +3.5, but, like Crazee said, the processing helped it to sound awesome. Then when I went over to Wave 104 and starting pitching their music (they were still playing carts too), their processing clashed with it. No matter how much Spencer, Dan, Beau Richards, Kelly green and I bitched about the GAWD AWFUL processing on that station, nothing was ever done, I wasn't programming it so I couldn't do anything but bitch about it!
The aircheck skimmer was another gawd awful story in it's self, we complained that it wasn't airchecking, it was recording from program, which sounded even worse than the on-air sound, but that never was corrected when it was CHR either.
Back to the pitching, when "I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls came out, I was already at Wave, Power had it pitched around +1 or +2, so I pitched it at +2.5, then when I went to Louisiana the competition there had it pitched at about +2.5, so I put it in at +3.0, it was FLYING!!!! But then again, our purpose for pitching at Power, Wave, and all the stations I programmed, was to get more music in per hour and to keep the momentum "forward moving" at a fast pace subliminally, and also to make the songs on "unpitched" stations sound dull and dragging. Whether it worked or not, who knows, but we had KILLER numbers at Power, good numbers at Wave, and made a ton of money off of it on both!
