Mix no more? Change?

mix no more? I have noticed people doing serious game planning around here at CC World Domination Headquarters on Oak Tree. People were running around crazy when the rumors K Rock/Country rumor started. I just heard a new sweeper for Lite Rock 106.5. Was it Lite Rock before mix?

You heard a sweeper for Lite Rock 106.5? What planet are you on? ???

It's still Mix 106.5 with the robotic female backselling, the same forteen-times-burnt-over 80s playlist, and the same imaging, or lack thereof.

There's a reason why Q104 and WDOK keep rendering Mix as a non-factor in the ratings. Part of it is the silly "game planning in CC World Domination Headquarters" that shoots Mix in the foot, time and time again. (Hell, Methany's been the acting PD for almost two years!)

I work on Oak Tree and I can tell you that something is going on with Mix. Hope they fix the thing- going after WDOK is the right play.

I got some ideas:

1. Bring back Big 10 WXEN with Big Don Allen overnights and great ethnic programming all day!! ;D ::) ;D
2. Or how about brining back WZZP? ;D ;D ??? ::) :p :-*

A name like MIX in *any* market shouldn't go through change, but instead be the tweaker station...

I guess, regardless of how the music is changed or altered there still wouldn't be good enough ratings?

The beauty of the name mix is exactly that...MIX!

Not so much..."this is our format...thanks for listening..."

Oh well...

"ZIP 106-FM, it's showtime baby at WZPP-FM Cleveland with the Smoker!"

"...somebody pass me a "jay"...somebody pass me an ashtray...it's take-em up day in C-Town USA..I wanna get double looped and corkscrewed too!"

Is there REALLY going to be some change to MIX!?

They DO need to drop the robotic-sounding female back-seller...It sounds awful, like they are trying to be some kind of XM or Sirius wanna-be.

MY 2 cents...adjusted for inflation, it's MORE like .002, LOL!!

I think they are actually happy with the song announcements. I think the problems with MIX are far worse than those song title mentions.

I still think it's bad that Daune Robinson is on a 10a-7p shift and still isn't allowed to do anything but read the same 5 liners over and over day in and day out. Daune and Jay Hudson are great talent and it's sad that they aren't able to utilize it. Outside of Brian and Joe, is Mix ever live? Is Daune even full time anymore?

as far as I can tell she is. It does suck for a talent to do a long shift like that, but do you really think the normal listening audience notices? ON a music station, do listeners know what a "midday" shift is? They just want their fav music, right?

In a previous era, the DJ would be much more then just a card reader or even a DJ. They would be entertainers and the best would be known by the listeners. A classic example from Cleveland, Ohio was WMMS, an album rock station which still exists today. During the 1970s and much of the 1980s the entire on-air staff was live, local and well known. People tuned in to hear them as well as the music. I can tell you today who as on-air in each weekday time-slot.

On a more general note, it seems that what goes on inbetween songs may increase in importance. No music radio station can beat an ipod in playing what that listener wants to hear at a given moment. Therefore what goes on inbetween songs increases in importance as a way of enticing that listener back to radio. The ipod can go from favorite song to favorite song non-stop. The radio station needs to provide content that the ipod can't. That might be information of interest to the audience, entertainment value beyond just the songs, contests, the human touch of companionship (important for some), and brand new songs that the listener will put onto his/her ipod in the future. Investing in and/or developing talent outside of morning and afternoon drive can have value.

It's always been MIX 1-oh-SUX to me since the Turn of the Century!

I think the "dumbing down" of the CC stations in Cleveland may have more to do with 6200 Oaktree building itself -- Remember back before the evil CC moved there??? They completely gutted the building to get rid of all the asbestos -- obviously, they never did get rid of all the dust!!!

WMVX, Where the V stands for Variety, was a kick ass sounding HAC when first put on the air in late 98-99 by Randy James. Three VO talents shadowing each other was new and fresh, live dayparts thru midnight. Was a great sounding station. The imaging was especially different and cut through. TR Rezney essentially invented the sound. TR helped launch the MIX format in Dayton with Randy at the helm and then carboned that to WMVX and other markets. Then Randy left Jacor and MIX started it's slow decline.

Great talent TR.

James? Didn't he get in trouble for record company stuff

I don't know, but it's really a shame. He was the only PD who truly "GOT" the Mix format as it should have been. It was a precusor to the "JackFM" format in respect, as the DJ's said very little interstital - at one point, they did live weather reads! - and the playlist was quite wide-open in comparison.

Essentally, what was left of WLTF's airstaff got bumped up one daypart after their morning show was cancelled - Julie Fox mornings, Bob McKay middays, Maria Farina afternoons and Megan Clemson evenings. (Can't remember right now if Matt Anthony was in overnights just yet, tho.) After Clemson left, Scott Free from WZJM/92.3 was her replacement. Jim Hart hosted the "Boogie Nights" disco show Fridays, and the "Totally 80's" show on Saturdays. Jay Hudson and Mike Gallagher were on weekends.

Think about that. All of the airstaff that has left WMVX...
