Mix shows on Z-100

I have a question. With the demise of the former KTU, how come Z-100 doesn't take over the club mix shows?
If they have let me know. I think it would be a good fit for the station and would fill a major format hole.

No offence to Z100 but,
Spinbad, Spinbad, Spinbad... Can't they think of something else. I wish insted of remixing all the old songs that played on Z100 at some point in time, instead Just play the songs in full throughout the day

You call late night, weekend specialty programming a major format hole?? Ok.

For once, I agree with lalumia...

I would love to hear a dance mixshow on z100 BUT lets face it - a dance mixshow on Z100 would be lame dance remixes of Pop songs. 1) The avg Z100 listener would say "ew, they ruined the song by making it into a "techno" remix! 2) The dance music fan wouldnt wanna hear a 95 bpm pop song time sped up to 128 bpms.. theyd wanna hear real dance music hits.

Yes I do. It is a hole that needs to be filled, especially in a city like New York. I am not talking about constant remixes of songs, but ORIGINAL dance/house music mixed by DJ's like: David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, etc. ::)

If you don't like the music, that's fine. But you don't have the right to keep it away from others who want to hear it on regular radio. Quit being a hater!!!!!!!!! ::)

He's not being a hater. Instead he's stating a fact and a real concern. Mixshows in the overnights are not big draws especially on stations that don't really play a big amount of dance music. The names of the dj's you mentioned are all great dj's but they will not be able to hold or increase the audience that Z already has during that time.

If your talking about a station like Pulse or KTU, sure it might make sense but Z100? I don't agree there.

Country. That's a major hole. When CBS was Jack, that left a major hole. The lack of mix shows is not a major hole.

While I don't think Z-100 sounds bad at night (I like the fact that they're Top 40 all day long) I don't think a nightly Dance mixshow would be a bad fit. Z is one of those CHRs that has been very supportive of Dance records. Furthermore, sister station Y-100 down in Miami, which also carries the Z Morning Zoo with Elvis in the mornings, hosts nightly Dance/House mixshows. John, you obviously already know this, but why do you think it's a good fit for Y-100 but a bad one for Z?

Florida is a 'dance' room, one of the few remaining;NYC is deeply immersed in hip hop/r&b/reggae lifestyle/pop culture

Actually lalumia is being a hater because in the past, anytime someone has mentioned anything about House/dance music, lalumia ALWAYS has something negative to say. My thing is, I am not a huge hip-hop fan (especially with some the stuff that is coming out today) but I am not going to tell someone that wants to hear it that it shouldn't be played on their favorite radio station. Also, please don't give me the bull that hip-hop sells that is the reason why it is rotated!!! Hip-Hop has one thing House Music doesn't, MAJOR PROMOTION!!!!! New York is supposed to be a city that has a rich history with House, why wouldn't it work on Z-100? Isn't Z supposed to be the contemporary hit station there? I don't see why it wouldn't be a good fit.

I have not always had something negative to say, I've had something realistic and TRUE to say; and obviously, You can't handle the truth(thank you, Jack Nickolson!
NYC has a rich legacy/history of house music?
NYC also has a rich legacy/history with the polka, the jitterbug, and the twist, and none of THAT is coming back, EITHER!!!...lol...

The poster is correct up top. Z100 wants to keep it's ratings. Don't come up with conspiracy theories as to why a station doesn't play YOUR format. It isn't because Hip Hop is promoted more. You are using reverse logic. Hip Hip is promoted more BECAUSE it's a more viable, popular format. Z100's demo is 18-34 yr old females. That demo is tested and re-tested as is the music. That demo prefers Hip Hop to the Dance show you want. You are not their demo. The Z100 thought process is that THEIR listeners expect Top 40 music WHATEVER time they tune in. Why would you want YOUR demo to leave at night so a demo that doesn't normally listen your station and will not listen when the sun rises? It isn't a matter of what YOU think sounds good or what genre YOU don't like. It's what the cume of any radio station prefers that drives ratings and revenue.

No they aren't correct. Hip-HOP, not "Hip-Hip" has a lot more outlets for it to be promoted that House/Dance does. That is why it makes money. A lot of the hip-hop that is being released is not even QUALITY Hip-Hop music, but that is the music that makes money because the labels are lazy and don't want to push anything creative. If you put have the time and effort behind House Music as you did behind Hip-Hop, then you could have a new genre of music making a profit. Please don't give me this BS about there isn't enough of an audience for it. Maybe not in a small town, but in areas that are diverse in the United States such as: Chicago, New York, LA, Philly, Miami, Seattle, etc, the music would have a BIG audience.
