Mix shows on Z-100

I have not always had something negative to say, I've had something realistic and TRUE to say; and obviously, You can't handle the truth(thank you, Jack Nickolson!
NYC has a rich legacy/history of house music?
NYC also has a rich legacy/history with the polka, the jitterbug, and the twist, and none of THAT is coming back, EITHER!!!...lol...
This has to be the most ignorant statement I have ever seen you write. Comparing a contemporary form of music with the polka, that's crazy.

Maybe not in a small town, but in areas that are diverse in the United States such as: Chicago, New York, LA, Philly, Miami, Seattle, etc, the music would have a BIG audience.

right!...because YOU say so, I suppose....

the polka is still played and enjoyed EVERYWHERE in the USA,and if only radio gave it the exposure it deserves, instead of all that hip hop, the polka will be HUGE once again; I'm already working on the remix,CHRles..

No, he's actually correct in this case.

As a child I was on a TV show called "Hullabaloo", some of the dances we were taught: The Frug, The Swim, Pony etc. No one does any of these today and few remember them.

What has endured is some of the music from that era along with the later Disco fad. Why? Because the dance tunes were also good pop in their own right.

The problems with dance music of the post-disco era is that it became totally automated, computer generated soulless generic pap designed to be segued on a dance floor, not listened to.

The fact that the original WKTU became number one for two years ( 1978- most of 1979) and the two later attempts on full signal FM's (Hot 103-97 and WKTU-2) failed, one went rap-hip-hop, the other mainstream rhymic should tell you something: modern dance is a niche format.

What that tv-as-radio station has done is smart, they can't hope to compete with the big stations but if they can sustain themselves on a shoestring they can build a format that no other station is likely to steal.

It's really no different than if they had gone Country, Jazz or Oldies.

I think, because Z 100 has ratings, and would like to keep them...
If you don't like the music, that's fine. But you don't have the right to keep it away from others who want to hear it on regular radio. Quit being a hater!!!!!!!!! ::)

He's not being a hater. Instead he's stating a fact and a real concern. Mixshows in the overnights are not big draws especially on stations that don't really play a big amount of dance music. The names of the dj's you mentioned are all great dj's but they will not be able to hold or increase the audience that Z already has during that time.

If your talking about a station like Pulse or KTU, sure it might make sense but Z100? I don't agree there.

Actually lalumia is being a hater because in the past, anytime someone has mentioned anything about House/dance music, lalumia ALWAYS has something negative to say. My thing is, I am not a huge hip-hop fan (especially with some the stuff that is coming out today) but I am not going to tell someone that wants to hear it that it shouldn't be played on their favorite radio station. Also, please don't give me the bull that hip-hop sells that is the reason why it is rotated!!! Hip-Hop has one thing House Music doesn't, MAJOR PROMOTION!!!!! New York is supposed to be a city that has a rich history with House, why wouldn't it work on Z-100? Isn't Z supposed to be the contemporary hit station there? I don't see why it wouldn't be a good fit.

The poster is correct up top. Z100 wants to keep it's ratings. Don't come up with conspiracy theories as to why a station doesn't play YOUR format. It isn't because Hip Hop is promoted more. You are using reverse logic. Hip Hip is promoted more BECAUSE it's a more viable, popular format. Z100's demo is 18-34 yr old females. That demo is tested and re-tested as is the music. That demo prefers Hip Hop to the Dance show you want. You are not their demo. The Z100 thought process is that THEIR listeners expect Top 40 music WHATEVER time they tune in. Why would you want YOUR demo to leave at night so a demo that doesn't normally listen your station and will not listen when the sun rises? It isn't a matter of what YOU think sounds good or what genre YOU don't like. It's what the cume of any radio station prefers that drives ratings and revenue.

Thread Over! Nicely Put! I am a huge fan of dance music, but you broke down EXACTLY why its not on.

In the eyes of an average 18-34 female in NY....Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Akon > Bob Sinclar, David Guetta

No they aren't correct. Hip-HOP, not "Hip-Hip" has a lot more outlets for it to be promoted that House/Dance does. That is why it makes money. A lot of the hip-hop that is being released is not even QUALITY Hip-Hop music, but that is the music that makes money because the labels are lazy and don't want to push anything creative. If you put have the time and effort behind House Music as you did behind Hip-Hop, then you could have a new genre of music making a profit. Please don't give me this BS about there isn't enough of an audience for it. Maybe not in a small town, but in areas that are diverse in the United States such as: Chicago, New York, LA, Philly, Miami, Seattle, etc, the music would have a BIG audience.

Wow...you found a typo I made and you comment on it as if I don't know what Hip Hop is called. Brilliant. Look, Hip Hop is not only music, it is a culture, a way of life, a fashion.....one I guess you don't realize. House music is not the same animal. Maybe in 1987, but not now. As for NY being big enough, there are a ot of formats that don't work here...Country, Alt Rock, FM, Talk......not every sport works here either, but I guess you would say that Baseball is only bigger than LaCrosse because of the advertising. Your format went the way of the dinosaurs.....it passed us all by....sorry. Thankfully you still have your cassette player :)
