Just move along, nothing to see (or listen to) here.................. :![]()
Well said, grantchester; more music may be a short-term fix for the K-VET morning show. But, long-term, it just ain't gonna do the job.grantchester said:More music and less talk will make KVET more vulnerable. More music might offer improvement from recent weak ratings, but it won't give the show what it needs to move forward.
MisterRadio said:Well, the biggest problem is that the KHFI management has taken over KVET. After Mac Daniels got fired, Jay Shannon was named operations director of the cluster and started making everything more like the Top 40 formats he is used to running. I'll give him the credit for doing that well, but it just doesn't translate well to a station like KVET. Chris Bender is an old on air partner of Shannon's who really can't talk more than 20 seconds at a time (if you listened to the Radiothon last week it was pretty obvious). Jay Shannon has always been a less (or no) talk guy who would just as soon have all of his jocks pre-recorded. The funny thing about all that is that of the four music stations at CC Austin, the one that is performing best in the mornings is the one with the most live talk on air, The Bobby Bones Show. A talk format show can work in the Austin market. KLBJ-AM always does well in the mornings. There is probably more to be said about why Cole is being pushed out which has as much to do with politics and personalities as anything else, but that would take all day.

I think your short memory is forgetting how awful KVET FM was doing in the ratings with all talk. And somehow fell further when PPM started.
