MORE CHANGES AT K-VET

Noticed this morning that Bender had resurrected Sammy's "Lean Beef." Except this time it's the host's thoughts and not the callers.

Imagine that...

The callers wont even have time to talk.

Did they actually take calls?

Not really sure any more, I hardly listen to them any more. Every time I did turn to it they were either playing music or commercials.

So it's the same, old, boring, homogenized CC crap, eh?

Just move along, nothing to see (or listen to) here.................. ::)

what company is run corporate now?

and that "same ol crap" is getting better ratings than the old way. which had NO ratings.

[EDIT- site disruption]

More music and less talk will make KVET more vulnerable. There are many choices available on the web and in the cloud. In the future, it will be listener loyalty that determines success of failure, and I don't see how anyone could be loyal to something available elsewhere, if they don't have a personal connection.
Cole's biggest attribute is the fact that (for good or for ill) everyone knows him. If he had a co-equal to reign in his ego and provide a counterbalance, he could do a compelling show. From what I heard in the late Allred era and the Bucky era, he didn't have that.
Bad talk didn't work. More music might offer improvement from recent weak ratings, but it won't give the show what it needs to move forward.

The change started right before Bucky left. I'm listening to KHFI now bobby bones show. Lets hope the KVET management doesn't go over there and mess things up.

Well said, grantchester; more music may be a short-term fix for the K-VET morning show. But, long-term, it just ain't gonna do the job.

Is it me or did their playlist shrink also?

Well, the biggest problem is that the KHFI management has taken over KVET. After Mac Daniels got fired, Jay Shannon was named operations director of the cluster and started making everything more like the Top 40 formats he is used to running. I'll give him the credit for doing that well, but it just doesn't translate well to a station like KVET. Chris Bender is an old on air partner of Shannon's who really can't talk more than 20 seconds at a time (if you listened to the Radiothon last week it was pretty obvious). Jay Shannon has always been a less (or no) talk guy who would just as soon have all of his jocks pre-recorded. The funny thing about all that is that of the four music stations at CC Austin, the one that is performing best in the mornings is the one with the most live talk on air, The Bobby Bones Show. A talk format show can work in the Austin market. KLBJ-AM always does well in the mornings. There is probably more to be said about why Cole is being pushed out which has as much to do with politics and personalities as anything else, but that would take all day.

I think your short memory is forgetting how awful KVET FM was doing in the ratings with all talk. And somehow fell further when PPM started.

No, I have a pretty long memory. I know that KVET had some so-so ratings with the talk format recently. That was pretty much a result of the less than brilliant addition of Bucky Godbolt to the show. Nothing against Bucky (I think he does just fine as a sports talk host), but it was a bad pairing. I also know that KVET in the last 10 years did pretty well with that format and had some pretty seriously good billing. Making the change to a music intensive format was not the answer, IMHO.
