More changes on the way - this time CC?

Interesting that there was no domain registered for Wild at 96.1. If there's anything to this, will they re-brand and re-launch as CHR? Also interesting that they could abandon the only powerful Spanish signal in the market, but plan on ESPN Deportes.

Would really be weird not having rock on 96.1 after this long.

After reading the article (there are details on domain registrations) here is what I think:

640/92.3 ESPN Deportes
94.9 The Bull
96.1 Wild
105.3 Project 1053
105.7/96.7 WGST

If WGST has the two FMs, there is no reason to keep the AM.

But, it seems like it'd be more logical to put Patron on 640/92.3...isn't there more audience for Spanish music/programming than Spanish sports? Patron is already established, too.

This is getting very interesting!

I think:
WiLD goes to 96.1 as "Channel", there's your rebrand, and reason for no "wild" domain registration!
Project Goes to 105.3, just like it used to be before 96rock was screwed up.
105.3 goes to 92.3 and WUBL-HD2
105.7/96.7 Goes Variety Hits as "Ted FM" or something else related to Atlanta ex. "Peach"!!!!
640 STAYS WHERE IT IS! If CC has any intention of an FM simulcast, it would have already happened. With AN106.7 about tI beat it's butt, and WSB as the shoe-in, you can mark them off the list.

I don't believe any of the ESPND rumors, looks like a big CC head fake -- I'll believe it when I see it.

I think it will end up on 92.3 relaying an FM signal. I think CC wants Variety Hits here! But we already have a "river", looks like a water name is out of the picture.

ESPNDeportesAtlanta.com redirects to iHeartRadio.com and Project1053.com redirects to 1053TheFox.com in Minot.

I don't know about you-but I smell a rat, and I usually don't with CC.

^ I agree with both of your predictions. If this plays out, whatever goes to 105.7/96.7, IMO, will be a gold-based formats. Adult Hits or Classic Hits (latter less likely, but wouldn't rule it out). AH would kill Journey and take 97.1 down some.

If CC had wanted 640 on FM, they would've done it when 750 did. Patron could go to 967 also.

If ESPN Deportes were viable, Dickey would have already put it on 1230 or 1340. Didn't Dickey already try that once, back before the Mexican exodus of late? CC isn't going to waste 640 on ESPN Deportes. WGST stays on 640. The only question is if WGST gets an FM upgrade. Patron isn't going to AM, period.

CC SHOULD put WGST on 105.7/96.7, but they won't.

Variety hits...hmmm. What about one that has a strong 70s/80s lean to replace AGH (and B98.5, for that matter)?

Don't forget Art Sutton's Suwanee translator that would mate well with 105.3 as a simul.

I can see Wild going to 96.1, with perhaps a tweak to cover more of the CHR market while still remaining distinct from the two hot ACs.

The other scenario is this (what CC really wants you to think):
94.9 stays intact
96.1 moves to 105.3
ESPN Deportes moves to 640/92.3
105.7/96.7 move to 'GST simul
105.7 moves to 96.1 w/ unknown name (goes CHR, no ghetto rap tracks)

Now does that seem smart to you? I hope not. And, does anyone think that CC would let some of their soon-to-be-fired employees know about the impending format flip? 'Course Not! Variety Hits on October 1st, or a Halloween stunt?

One thing that CC will have to change about WiLD, if they get a bigger signal on 96.1, is a local morning show. Elvis Durran, while a decent show, won't cut it on Big City Full Powered stations. CC has added a few local morning shows this year (see WLIT/Chicago and others).

I don't see them waiting 2 months. We could see something like this:

96.1 and 105.3 simulcast as Project 8/17-8/24 to transition listeners
105.7/96.7 and 96.1 simulcast as CHR 8/24-8/31 to transition listeners
105.7 (and I guess 96.7) stunt 8/31-9/3 over Labor Day weekend, with new format revealed on Labor Day?

There would be no hires for a Variety Hits..... Could my earlier expressed theory on the Variety Hots theory be correct? It's easy for CC to keep this under lock and key.

If there is a new format, whatever it is, they have to fill the 70s and even 80s void...yes, 97.1 plays those eras, but has a very tight playlist of just certain rock tracks. B-98.5 has even cut back on the 80s.

I am hearing from a source inside CC this morning that 105.7 will in fact move to 96.1, though the Spanish sports talk is currently trying to find a place in the market, and that it could be on 92.3. WGST will stay at 640, while "an exclusive music format will debut on 105.7/96.7 very soon!".

All makes sense. I will stand by my predictions for 105.7/96.7.

Honestly......

-I would think that Clear Channel would keep Project on the strong signal to attempt pick up all 5 of Dave's listene..... oh, right, this is Clear Channel, the company which decided to rob christmas from 94.9.

-96.1: Project to WILD
-105.3: ElParton to Project
-96.7: WILD to ESPN Deportes
-105.7: WILD to Peach (AC, Soft AC, or Oldies, either way, cut off "Call Me Maybe" with "Your Wildest Dreams".)

The Bull and WGST will stay as is.

Because I waited too long to edit my quote, I guess that CC could also use the Peach name for Variety Hits. They brought back the SHE name in Miami to 103.5 for variety hits in May.

Isn't 96.1 doing well in a couple of money demos? Then again are not most of 96.1's listerners out side 285? Project might work better on 105.3

I think you meant Project wouldn't work better on 105.3, due to a lot of OTP listeners.

FWIW, I don't think that Project has ever consistently gotten the numbers that 96 Rock or 105.3 The Buzz did. Can someone verify this?
