More cuts at Curtis?

That's a shame, it really is, and CC corporate is not doing itself any favors with this move. Even though it may appear in the short run that paid shows are an easy revenue stream, this will only further alienate listeners who want some semblance of local radio on their local CC affiliate beyond weekday morning shows, although it could all play right into the hands of locally-owned stations that proactively brand themselves as non-corporate, non-homogenized........and can also turn a profit. On the other hand, do weekends even matter anymore? Maybe CC is right: just mail it in.

The website says the show is heard on 100.3. I've never heard it on there.

I saw 106.5 the End as a featured affiliate, I don't think Allan has updated that part of his website in a long time.

Of course, there is Flynn and Patterson on The Eagle, but since when has truth mattered in radio promotion?

How long before another station would adopt DubbleYewEssJayEss as their branding?
Oh yeah, they ground out its heritage. Who'd want to copy that?

Heritage doesn't mean squat. Ask any newspaper, or Oldsmobile. Time marches on, you should too.

What somebody needs to do is create a Talk based station that appeals to 30 to 50 year olds. It's there for the taking.

Yeah heritage isn't that strong a selling point, but they've been scorched-earthing WSJS for years to the point that the whole situation, even back through history, has no meaning.

Surf, I agree someone ought to create talk shows/stations that appeal to a younger crowd. I just don't know that you can convince younger folks to turn to AM stations. In larger cities sure because they've always been doing it. In the smaller cities where AM has already died and folks have not grown up with it ... I just don't know that the choice of AM enters into a younger person's consciousness.

The format does exist. But it's not what it used to be.

http://www.realradio.fm - WTKS 104.1 Orlando

Arguably 107.9 The Link was also doing younger talk but Greater Media has severely neutered it.

I doubt that a Talk Format that appealed to young folks could get past the censors. Try listening to Jenna Marbles (You-Tube star), more F-Bombs than the average B-52 could carry, not to mention other words that even George Carlin would not say.

I'm thinking more of a News and Info station for (roughly) 30 to 50 year olds. Some talk, but not politics.

Topics might include:

Finances, movie and restaurant reviews, concerts and shows, best getaways for the weekend, sports, celebrity tweet of the day, etc... And, of course, news that is well targeted.

If its done well, commercials can even be designed (or disguised) as information. But it all has to hit the demo bulls-eye.

What's up with the new blue trash cans in Raleigh?

Where's my favorite Korean food truck gonna be today?

How was the Sheryl Crow concert last night at DPAC?

Stuff that music stations USED to do, but now are too afraid someone will hit the button.

Hell, I'd listen to it, I've already heard the 500 songs on the music stations enough for my lifetime.

Many of the features can be pre-produced and rotated on the air like music. It would take an sharp PD to keep it relevant every day. The old line news/talk PDs need not apply.

No Rush or baby Rush, no Clark, no Dave.

And, it has to be on FM!

30-50 year olds can get all of that from the Googles. So therein lies the problem (it usually is the problem)

Old people like that kind of talk radio though.

Also, how is that any different from today's WPTF? Except for the FM part, of course.

Everyone old fogie in Lexington still listens to 1440 WLXN in the mornings even though they play Oldies..BECAUSE, they have the Birthday Club, a Trading Post and the best of all Obits! Always has and always will make money.. and they carry all the local High School Sports along with American Legion Baseball! ;D ;D
