WNYC has posted a job opening for Chief Operating Officer at $400,000. Apparently all the cutbacks and layoffs don't apply to the executive club.
The job of COO is primarily a fundraising job. You don't get access to people with money if you can't afford your car insurance payments. They want the kind of person who lives with other CEOs and can make a call to other CEOs. Other CEOs make millions. You don't hang out with millionaires if you make $30K. Let me tell you from experience. If you want to hang with rich people and ask them for money, you need to be one of them. That's what this job is about. Anyone can apply for it. That's why they did a public posting. But they want to see a track record of knowing how to deliver operating funds for the station. There are no stock options, like other CEOs. This is a non-profit. If you look beyond WNYC, you'll discover that the top people at most non-profits make at least that amount. So no, cutbacks don't apply to the top people. It's their job to make sure that cutbacks don't happen at all.
