More signs of a pending 94.9 format change

Looks like this stuff about the impeding doom of Lite FM is becoming more true every day.

First, the URL bullatlanta.com was registered by CC

Then today, they said they were going commercial free. I don't know if this is for the weekend, or for good (until the flip).

Plus, I think they were playing around with the audio processing.

The same people that accurately predicted 105.3 would go Mexican are saying 94.9 is going country. If any of this doesn't smell of a flip, I don't know what does.

Keep in mind that those same people predicted that 96.7 The Buzz was going away a few years ago. Nobody ever predicted that it would move to 105.3 and continue running until this day. It will be interesting to see if Viva goes to 94.9 and the Bull goes to 105.7 because its signal skews northeast. Another possibility is that CC may move an outlying station closer to Atlanta although I am not sure which one.

People working at the station are saying Lite will definitely change to something, but nobody has been told to what. I highly doubt they'll be commercial free before Christmas. They charge their highest rates of the year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

While I certainly won't go so far as to actually predict that, it does seem to make a certain sense. And it would be sort of interesting to see 105.7 go back to country since that's what it was when CC acquired it from McClure.

Interesting point. But would't putting the bull on 105.7 be crowding that end of the dial with Country stations. You arleady have Country at 106.1, 105.7, and 107.1. Guess that doesn't matter too much if it happens. That would be an interesting scenario.

It'll go country. They need a strong signal for a format that will also carry the Braves.

Judging by the #s--and the changes at 96.1-----shouldn't the talk be a change to country at 99.7(which I would personally hate, but I wonder how long they'll stick w/alt rock at 99.7 is the face of those #s)?

What about putting WGST on FM on a potent local signal, probably would get better ratings and a better night signal.

Wasn't WGST simulcasted on 105.7 a few years ago? I don't think it helped much or else they would have kept it. I seriously doubt it would help WGST now that The Kimmer and much of their staple programs are gone. Besides, WGST has a strong signal during the day that is probably better than 105.7. This would help GST at night though.

I am also surprised that Cumulus did has not flipped the format yet. Cumulus definitely knows how to work the country and urban formats in most markets, and Q100 and 99X ratings are really low. I think Dickey still wants to give 99X one last shot with the new morning show since it is a heritage alt rock station from the 90's. I am also surprised that the Atlanta market can sustain two alternative stations when some larger markets don't even have one.

With talk of CC going country on 94.9, would this explain the tons of tv commercials from KICKS 101.5 Atlanta's Country Station, The BIG One?

Do we really need another country station ? Where can I hear Bread, Jim Croce, Carole King and James Taylor in the Atlanta market ?

You think Project is an Alternative station? Show me an Alternative that plays Pink Floyd, Led Zep, AC/DC etc... Project is an Active Rock station. Cumulus loves what CC has done over there - they are a mess. Ohh, and you can BOOK 94.9 going country... as in a SURE THING!

I was referring to 105.3 The Buzz. Project is more of an active rock format but has a similar audience to 99X. Although, I think the active rock format will do very well here as it attracts a diverse audience of males and I am not sure if 99X still has many listeners.

Any guesses as to where "Lite Rock" will appear next?

For those of you worried about missing Lite FM, a similar format will be available on B 98.5 FM for quite some time. And, if 98.5 is not "Lite" enough for you, go to Radio Shack and purchase an Accurian HD Radio ($99 after rebate) and check out 98.5 HD2. The format is very similar to Lite 94.9 but actually slightly more mellow.

In the city of Atlanta, you can listen to Country at 99.3, 101.5, 106.1, 106.7 and 107.1. In the suburbs, you have Country at 92.3, 92.5 and 104.3. Yes, I've listened to 99.3 on the lower level of a parking deck, surrounded by skyscrapers. It does reach and I've listened to 106.1 in Cobb County. I'm sure there are more. There's a lot of Country out there and I have a strong feeling 106.7 could become something else if 94.9 becomes the Bull. Most of those Country outlets are located inside 106.7's 60 dBu contour.

If you think 106.7 will try something else, what are your guesses there?
