Mormon Radio to be broadcast on "The Sound"

I suspect it's going to be on their HD sub-channel.

I do not see Bonnieville wanting to lose money in the name of spreading the word of G-d.

Satellite Radio?

Conversations continue with Sirius XM about adding Mormon Channel.

This is an ideal use for HD subchannels. Religious and special interest programming would be best served there much like the reading for the blind service use of traditional FM subcarriers. Ethnic and minority programmers could lease channels or the broadcasters could generate their own specialty lineups.

Not to imply that either faith are in any way similar but why hasn't Scientology tried something like this especially in La La Land?

This means that they will be reducing the bit rate on their HD1 channel from 96 kbps to 48 kbps. In simpler terms, it means that their HD channel 's audio quality will become $hit.
96 kbps is barely enough for FM quality audio. 48 isn't enough for even good AM quality audio. Let me put this into perspective-48 kbps is DIAL UP speeds! Remember how bad streaming sounded over dial up?

Not that I know of, other than using the web... and I used to work a few blocks from most of their Hollywood "Centers".

Really? They don't seem to mind losing money on The Sound. They are spending 4 million dollars on outdoor advertising and getting a 1.0,
yet they seem to be sticking with a flawed and failed approach.

Buckethead, hahahahaha thanks for that post!!! In about 24 hours we will find out if their continuing flawed approach will reap numbers larger than last month's 1.1 LOL!!

BTW for some fun laughs, read what a few of the posters on their forum are saying....

Wow, Super, you rule that place. The board should be called "Super Radio's Board at thesoundla.com"

I'd never checked it out before, but it was exactly what I thought it would be. Everybody griping about too much Journey, Cars, etc. and a select few who must have just caught on to the fact that the station is owned by the Mormon church, and (OMG!) they choose to run the station in a manner that is consistent with their belief system. Who knew?

That made me wonder about this post on The Sound board that a person left:

The Sound keeps playing "Latter day Saints" commercials. WHY ??? I cannot think of any station promoting (commercializing) a religion (Other than religious ones). Preference of music is one thing, but religion is another. Could this station PLEASE quit pushing your religious preference ??? If your going to push religion, why not Christian or Presbytrian ?? It's pretty obvious that owned by Bonneville ( Based in UTAH )DUH !!! This religion (Mormon)is being pushed here. WRONG !!!! Lets keep commercials to diet coke or even tampax comercials. THANX !!!!

Did Bonneville only buy KSWD to push the LDS Religion? HAHAHAHA

Heh heh my man, I was quite prolific today, but I hadn't been that much lately so don't judge today only. Of course, I used to be very very very prolific, they all know me at The Sound, they know me personally etc. Now they groan when they see some of my posts (I've cut back somewhat as I've mentioned) because they know that I know something about the radio industry and how that I'm not like some of their posters who think the DJs can pick the music they play, etc. I have told them how I feel about their playlist and I don't mince words. I have a few friends there who are equally vociferous.

In your opinion just what is "a manner that is consistent with their belief system"? What does that translate to in format, playlist, etc.?

Super asked: In your opinion just what is "a manner that is consistent with their belief system"? What does that translate to in format, playlist, etc.?

Actually, my comment isn't directed at Sound management or the Mormon church that owns them, it is at the posters who seem to think there is something wrong with any company or organization running a business that they own the way they see fit. If you don't like the church or they way they run the station, don't listen.

I don't think the church is micro-managing the playlist or anything like that, however I do think they passed on more viable and lucrative formats, particularly Top 40, because to do so effectively would mean they would have to play songs that have raunchy lyrics and personalities that they don't feel are conducive to positive family-values, which they strongly support. I totally get that and support them for taking such a stand. Are there adult themed songs on the Sound that wouldn't play well with the church elders? Of course. But the overall feel and lifestyle of the Sound music is consistent with what they view as suitable for their station.

They have played religious (I believe Morman Tabernacle, but I am not sure) music on Sunday mornings for as long as they have owned the station.

Or as I like to remind people: Freedom of the press belongs to those who one.

The board should be called "Super Radio's Board at thesoundla.com" I really enjoy John's comments - I have to agree it's the most watered-down AAA format, but it's finally moving up in the ratings (1.4) - Now, as for the LDS chnl, I don't think it was Sammy's idea :D Joe G

Certainly the LDS church is free to express their viewpoint on their radio station, but I would urge anyone who is FOR marriage equality to boycott 'The Sound', since the LDS church was the largest single contributor to the "Yes on 8" campaign.

Like it matters, no one is listening anyway...
