Morning Mess

Generated little buzz? Where is your buzz-o-meter located. Look out on the highways this week. A good 30% of people are still on vacation. Plus what kind of buzz are you expecting? Now you can say Giant Brian now entering his 4th or 5th money is not generating any buzz.

Hey isn't this board about giving everyone a hard time? Ill just come right out and say it. I think its a dumb move for star to bring in a young show and age them. Hopefully Star wont censor them.

I think they should move to nights. They would be an AMAZING night show

I agree with Produceralp. I don't see any major hype anywhere about the show....with the exception of this board.
I listened yesterday. They were getting a parent to pour ice water on a sleeping 9 year old girl for concert tickets. A nine year old girl, waking up screaming, was the bit.....
I feel like this is part of a "Simpsons" episode....or maybe like the "Family Guy" where Stewie and Brain become FM jocks. The surreal character named "Super Phat Mike," with his own audio imaging stingers, must be a Matt Groen creation.
The thought did cross my mind that maybe this show is way over my head.
Am I alone on the coldcuts and duckie flushing thing?

Listened for a few minutes this morning. The topic, "What celebrity do you think would make a good president?" Caller: "Oprah, because she's could take her salary and lower the national debt." Host: "**chuckle chuckle** Yeah, that's right. Good call." WOW!! Now that's entertainmezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

I listened this morning and a girl called in nominating Hugh Hefner because he is one of the richest peole in America? I am not sure but my guees is he doesn't even crack the top 1000. He is no Bill Gates.

The sad thing is they let these people vote.

I keep going back to little_sister's comment on page 1, that these guys were "HUGE In Indianapolis."
If they were THAT huge why did the station change formats. Maybe "huge" is a relative term like everything is "amazing" and "awesome." It's hard to find a good exclamation word these days. All the good ones are overused, overstated and greatly exaggerated.
This has to be a big adjustment for the PD. McCoy was consistant and didn't need "air check meetings" for years. Suddenly he's having to think "what do I say to 3 people who have it all figured out."
How long is that contract Marc?

I realize it is really easy to sit here and criticize. Doing a morning show 5 days a week....and keeping it fresh....has got to be tough. And having to deal with dolts like me, who will never be happy with ANYTHING you come up with, must be painful. Your trip to deposit your check in the bank hopefully brings you great relief.
If any of the Star morning guys actually are bored enough to read this thread...."Welcome to Atlanta." We're actually not that hard to please....once we've had our meds.

The station changed formats because Emmis' cash cow was an AM talk station they wanted to move back to FM--93.1 was the frequency it originated on. WNOU Radio Now 93.1 was 5th in the market 12+ when the station flipped--two days later, another radio group brought the intellectual property rights for WNOU, fired their own staff, and tried to take everyone from Radio Now 93.1 to their company. Unfortunately for them, it didn't work.

I've looked over their trends in Indianapolis. They started slowly but their ratings grew and grew, and were actually good at the end.

The station changed formats because Emmis management felt that the talk format on its WIBC-AM, which had been highly successful for years, should be moved to FM because FM was the future for even talk. To accomplish that, Emmis needed to blow up one of its FM's, and they chose the CHR. Why? I don't know what went into that decision; possibly because 18-34, WNOU-FM's demo, is not the most profitable. Maybe they believed in the talk format so much that they wanted their best signal for it.

I don't know the answer to why they blew up their CHR, but the Morning Mess' ratings were good.

It seems like they are trying too hard.

It really does not sound like a number 8 market morning show.
They are very repetitive as well, but not terrible. The prank calls are ridiculous.

I remember the Bert Show when it came on and it was horrific.

My first impression of the Bert Show was hearing Bert and thinking he sounded like Jimmy Barron with his voice pitched up.

If a station's success starts with the morning show it's really hard to understand blowing up a station if the morning show was that good.. I hear the reasons and am not arguing but it DOES feel like something is being left out of the story. It's tempting to think the high brow CEO of Emmis was embarrassed over their juvenile presentation. Emmis is headquartered there and they are very image minded. WIBC is a great tradition station. I'm sensing so far there is another shoe that will drop from this story. We'll know by spring if the mess bit off more than they can handle. Star won't promote big until they're totally sold. Lack of promotion speaks volumes.

Considering how much money LF is saving by not paying Steve and Vicki, the new show doesn't have to have success right out of the gate. S&V were pulling down close to a million collectively annually. The new show is costing them about a 3rd of that. It's a risk they are willing to take considering the savings.

The difference in morning show revenue far outweighs the cost of production i.e. salaries. Steve and Vicky produced gobs of revenue for Star....they were worth evey penny LF was paying them. I don't see the new guys as building that type of audience.
No....LF would gladly pay a king's ransom to get the dollars S&V were bringing in.

You think advertisers have bailed? You are mistaken.

I'm not privy to that information.
I would guess that initial buys will be based on some assumed numbers for the Mess. Maybe a sale weasel will enlighten me as to how this is done. But I also assume that Star's demos will change with this change in direction for the morning show.
Not to say that Steve and Vicky were a gathering for Mensa members but it did not revolve around the inane. The new show, IMHO, will not P1 females like S&V. If that's the case, then Star revenue will go down sharply I would think.

I hope those guys (The Mess) aren't reading this stuff, but they probably are. What a nice welcome to Atlanta.

They've been on the air for all of 5 days. Couldn't we just see how they develop and revisit this subject in 2 months?
