According to All Access, Skip Murphy retired from KRNB on last Friday.

jd said:I tend to agree with jeff, salem. Maybe there's not a lot of discussion here about the formats you mentioned but there's probably more interest than you might think in the stations themselves and for some people who could be called legends in D/FW radio. When a guy like Skip Murphy retires it's something that I notice, and I also wonder what's ahead for the station.
I remember when K104 was a new station. I remember when Tom Joyner was on AM radio in Dallas. That's right, Soul 73 was one of my favorite stations and I still tune in occasionally. In fact, back in the 80's when I was at one of the rock stations in Dallas I'd listen to KKDA-AM on the way to work and loved it. Once I heard them play Nancy Wilson's "Guess Who I Saw Today" and was totally blown away. (If you know the song, great. If not, check out the lyrics sometime.)
I've been dismayed by what appeared to be the misdirection of KRNB over the years, I can see how K104 became successful and was able to hang onto it, but admittedly my tastes are more in line with K-SOUL when it comes to the formats you mentioned. I'm certainly not an authority on it but I do have an interest in what the stations are doing. You see, I love the old R&B, some of today's music that's decades out of my range, I prefer Black Gospel over Southern Gospel and I listen to Bluesville whenever I get the chance, too, more than any other satellite channel.
I'm not into trashing formats on this board, and speaking only for myself, I think you're probably generalizing just a bit too much. To you I might look like someone who'd prefer classic rock, news/talk, KEOM or Platinum. And that's just wrong. Just because I'm not in the target demo doesn't mean I don't listen or care about what happens in the urban/urban AC or gospel formats, and hopefully there are a lot more people out there who tend to look at it in a similar way.

I'm kinda surprised at this. Skip hasn't been on KRNB all that long. I just wonder what caused this? Salem, who's doing his shift now?
Damn that hurts, Salem... The really hurts! Read back, I've always had your back on posts about Urban formats. I'm down like four flat tires!!salemjedi54 said:Other than Bucwhyl and myself no one cares about those formats. Anything about urban/urban ac/gospel on the DFW board gets trashed.
