Mother Jones: How the rise of Salem Communications' radio empire reveals the evangelical master plan

A small market O'Reilly

OK, first you come on here and ask people to provide you with questions to ask Al Franken. This makes me wonder why you would invite someone on your show when you can't think of anything to ask him.
You also make it clear that your purpose is not to find out more about Franken, his life, his career, his viewpoints or even what makes the guy tick. You want to see if you can pound the guy.
Unfortunately, you are fighting way over your weight. Franken has spent his career in comedy clubs and he knows how to deal with hecklers.
Then you come back here crying about how your co-host ruined the interview.
Maybe your co-host was naive enough to have an open mind, just ask questions, let the guy talk and let the audience make up its mind about his answers. You know, like a real interview intended to elicit information.
I also find it curious that you are the program director, the regular host of the program working with a temporary co-host, and you can't control your program. Or maybe you are one of those people who never makes a mistake and it's always someone else's fault.

With modern technology we have the tools to rebuild her... faster... stronger... but due to contractor costs, more expensive.

Your low, low cost: $6,000,000,000,000. Order now and we'll include this free Halliburton mini screwdriver gift. Try Aunt Ester for 30 days and if you don't agree she's the best thing for religious talk radio, return her, but keep the screwdriver set as our gift to you.

Yes, I read the article and I've read MJ before.
And I know the history of the magazine because
I read it on their web site a few years ago.

And I don't care what you self-importantly care about.
I'm not writing this for you.

When you're paying me to write an article, THEN I
will care what you think. If, indeed, you do.

I reported facts about MJ magazine, their radio program,
their history, their politics, and Salem's local affiliate.

If you can't comprehend that or you don't care,
that's your problem.

Or maybe you also don't care that left-wing MJ had a
built-in bias. That's what I was talking about.

Or is this just your Fred Sanford imitation? You do it
well, probably based on years of experience.

So before you call someone dummy, PLEASE look in the mirror.

Damn,
I didn't realize I was addressing a radio god.
Please forgive me oh wise one in the industry.
I simply came on here thinking I could engage
a few of you with and interrogative on Al Franken.
Which, by the way, I take full responsibility
for how the show went. I tucked my tail, whimpered
and moved on. Surprising you can't.
Good to see that you read the post correctly.
If you had any insight at all you'd see that
I was trying to get BOTH sides of the issue to
present on the air.
And with all due respect to you, I'm sure in
your career you've let a few things go astray
or maybe YOU have never made mistakes. I never
had any problem finding out about Al's inner
workings so his stance on issues could be better
understood by those who DON'T understand.
Do you think that a pointed question shouldn't
be asked?
As far as fighting over my weight... in order to MATCH
wits with someone, the person needs to be armed with
live rounds, not blanks. For Franken to say about Michelle
Malkin: "to engage a fool is to become a fool" is the
pot calling the kettle black to the nth degree.
Engaging, dialoguing, and discussing issues is paramount
in talk radio. And you may need to lighten up on the
caffeine a little.
Don't mind telling you, all opinions are important,
but not all are necessary.
Thank for your input. No sarcasm implied.

So, about the ARTICLE itself...

> Thanks for posting the link. Should be interesting.
> And scary!

Which is more or less what I was expecting from MJ - but I've got to say, the article was much less anti-Salem than I'd have thought it would be. It was, dare I say it, "fair and balanced" - except for the mistaking of KRLA for KKLA.

Now that you've had a chance to read it in its entirety, 954, what say you?

well-written article, but...

Pretty well-written article (although I have no idea
if it's all factual). But you have to consider that
their point of view colors their conclusions.

Since I find Salem's religious right and MJ's extreme
left equally extremist and (yes) scary, I'll leave it
at that.

In south Florida, we "only" have Salem's conservative
talk network, not either of their religious ones. But
I know they're buying stations. They just traded for
a station in Orlando recently.

FYI, I'm mentioning it and linking to un in December
Radio News.

Schultz spent $60 for a new tie

Yes, Big Eddie mentioned on his show that he spent $60 on a new tie for a TV appearance on Fox News. He was up early and not happy with the less than 50/50 air-time he received from Fox to talk about Christmas. He added that it was a waste of $60 for the new tie.

If you noticed his CNN Headline News appearance, last night, he went back to his "used many times" blue tie. I guess that one must be worth more than $60.
