MOVIN 97.5 goin' Christmas?

They've just played five Christmas songs in a row now (as of 5:00 today) and just identifying themselves as Home for the Holidays and just 97.5 ...

It sure does sound that way. Even their website has been redone for the holiday theme, movin975.com.

New format coming soon?

Who knows, but they posted a job for MIDDAYS/MUSIC DIRECTOR back on 10/27: Music: You should have more than a working knowledge of Top 40 and HOT A/C

Damn it! If I wasn't at the 99 cents onlty store standing in line, I would've been here to beat everyone to posting this!  ;D Oh well. At least now I know I'm not the only one who noticed and was wondering about the Movin Christmas music and suspected a format change. I guess maybe KZZP should start adding more pop rock if KMVA leaves since KZON is doing fine delivering the rhythmic pop sound by themselves.

Double damn! Does this mean the Star 97~Five lounge will soon re-open? Nurse Jeff and I could sure use a good stiff one after hearing Bing Crosby for the umpteenth time!

I wonder if leaving the (old?) Movin' logo on there was an oversight, since (as mentioned earlier in the thread) they are now identifying themselves as just "97.5".

Heard their morning show on with the Xmas music this morning while scanning the dial. Not a good fit. This station can't even do xmas music right.

disappointed they have gone all xmas too since I did like to tune them in while switching between kiss and jamz. Well who knows what is too come since they have been a mismash over the past year anyways.

The market could use a AAA. And dare I say..... a Dance CHR!!!!! ;D Energy 97.5. Has a ring to it. :p

It's ok. It's no longer forbidden to suggest dance here, and you'll no longer get beheaded for bringing it up in Phoenix. You can even get by somewhat with talking about it in the L.A. section! Just don't mention it in the Philadelphia or the New York section (with emphasis on PHILLY) because the result will be MUCH MUCH WORSE than what happens when people suggest top 40 or rhythmic lean top 40 in the Atlanta section. ;D

Heck, it'll even be worse than saying anything positive about Coast to Coast AM in the New York section.

It looks like I'm telling jokes and just messing around, but in reality, this is about as nonfiction as a true story could get. Try it and see. Suggesting dance in places like Philadelphia.... New York... under a REAL name? Hehehe - well I'm glad that I've benefited mostly by learning from other people's mistakes on these boards... and I'll just leave it at that!

and I am not even the one to bring it up LOL. Energy 97.5 does have a nice ring to it. I believe Pistol Pete is still looking for an air shift ;-) Ahhh that would be a great new years present but I wont hold my breath. I wont tell you how many times when listening to BPM or the dance channel over direct tv that I wish we still had a dance station in phoenix. Plus the signal would be greater than it was at 92.7 and 101.1. ;-)

The reason I'm not sharing any enthusiasm about the dance possibility here is because... well, imagine how I'd feel if it did happen, then I had to hop into a plane and leave shortly after! Trust me, the day I heard more than three Christmas songs in a row, the dance possibility subconsciously popped into the back of my head the same way the thought of "what if something happens" pops in the back of your mind as you fly in a plane. As a matter of fact, when I heard TWO Christmas songs play around 6 o clock, this is the brain activity that began to occur:

FIRST SONG PLAYS:
"Hmmm, why are they playing a Christmas song? Maybe it's just SOME Christmas music being sprinkled in but they're keeping the regular format.. But this Christmas song doesn't even match the format. maybe.... ok no. That would never happen."

SECOND SONG PLAYS:
"Ok - somethings definitely up here! That's two Christmas songs in a row! What if they are changing formats... they COULD come back as a rhythmic dance sound... maybe they'll follow KVBE or Party 105.3 sound. There's NO WAY they are doing a 'Christmas music double play' or just trying to be like KEZ because that wouldn't make sense! Alright let me go in the 99Cents Only store and do my shopping then see what is playing when I get back in the car..."

THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH SONG PLAYS:
"Alright - that's it! They're definitely changing! I wonder what the people on the boards are saying about it and what they might know, or if anyone even noticed? Either this is an hour of Christmas music for the 6 o clock hour, or they are flipping formats. What if they flip.. to dance? I doubt that it would become KFYI..."

Just intuition, but I think the post above may have nailed it with the "90s" suggestion. This seems to be the flavor of the month, just as Movin was the flavor of the month a few years ago, 80s before that, Jammin Oldies before that, etc. etc. Dance CHR, AAA or even a direct competitor for 103.9 or 100.7 would presumably be more lasting formats.

Arizona surely does have a good amount of classic/old school/back in the day flavour going on.

98.7 KPKX
104.3 KAJM
100.7 KSLX
99.3 KNRJ

It'll be interesting to see how a 90's format would do..

I think I would be ok with the generation X radio but if does go that way how does that play into X 103.9??? hmmm ;-)

What a desperate attempt to grab KEZ listeners. It will only work on 99.9 because they already target old ladies. They don't piss off their usual audience because it works with their format and demo (plus it brings additional tune ins). But when a station like KOOL attempts, it just scares away the loyal fans. Even though Movin has few fans, it seems this is the worst thing they could do.

I personally think the Movin thing they were doing was not working so this is an easy way to transition into a new format. Only thing is, why keep the shows on the air with the christmas music. It doesn't sound right at all LOL
