MOViN Morning Show - Apply Within

OH Ben.You "work Pt at CBS". I understand you got to "defend the flag". (sounds like Mike H.?)You must be associated with 103.7 because ,if you read closely, I actually praised KLUV. The color scheme on the SUV doesnt work on a cloudy day with no signs or banners close by it. Its noticable as being an SUV with a strange color scheme. You work there, so of course you know where things are, objectively ..you wouldn't. The "KVIYELLOW" van worked..this one doesn't, plus setting up inside the store instead of inside out of the rain would have helped salvage it.

I am sure the 103.7 promotions department would be more than happy to hear about your opinions so that they can correct any problems the crew had at the appearance over the weekend.

Ron Chapman once told me that the best billboard he ever saw was the old 92.5 KAFM-FM billboard. Solid red board with the frequency and letters in huge, dark blue block letters, and the words "Maximum Hits". He said it was simple, bold, and said all that needed to be said. Nowdays, there are a lot of boards with artist pictures, slogans, call letters, numbers, 18 different colors and patterns. Now wonder you traffic people are so busy - drivers can't try to read the boards AND drive at the same time.

Same principle would work with the vans as well, I'm thinkin'.

I'm just a nobody part-timer, man. I do my little thing on Saturday mornings, and hope that the promotions department does theirs. We have some good people there and IMO they do fine.

I'm truly sorry the colors aren't working for you. I think they're fine and I've actually heard some compliments on them. At any rate, it's not worth arguing about what is not a fact-based argument but simply a matter of taste or personal opinion.

No harm done Ben. If you are starting out, good luck and best wishes.
Its good to know your history about stations you go to work for.
KLUVS was effective ,not only the way I described it,but their Van was painted SIMPLE. White field BIG BOLD BLUE CALL LETTERS. It was visible on whose van it was and KLUV had signs ,banners around the place. It was a good set up. KVIL's van has a nice color, but is it effective and eye catching as to who they are? No. Its just a nice looking SUV with a rare color. No signs,no banners =NO traffic to the remote site. Perhaps you can help modify it to get them the attention they obviously need. Hang in there.

Didn't the Wolf try that approach... something about 'nother animal'? ;D

I am most certainly not just "starting out." I am in my late 30s and I have been doing radio since I was a wee boy of 16. I did it full-time from 1984 to 1996. I am a senior software engineer for a major financial services company for my "real job" and just dabble in radio on the weekends for fun, and to keep the proverbial "foot in the door." In DFW I have worked (PT in the programming department) at WBAP, KSCS, and I have been at KVIL for over four years.

Regarding your observations at the store that day, perhaps there were extenuating circumstances as to why there were not banners and signs, or why their table was setup in a particular spot. Neither of us know or can ever know for sure so it's best not to speculate.

OK MEA CULPEA On your expertise. The situation was this. They could have put banners out. There is no ordinance against it. The store had PLENTY OF ROOM inside. The "staff"was busy talking amongst themselves cutting up and not working the customers. It was painfully obvious. The SUV was in a good position BUT lousy color scheme. The result was (no exageration) very low to zero attendance. The Promo dir. should have a meeting.

Not gonna argue about it with you any longer. You win.

Quitter! ;D

Seriously though, I did not have an opportunity to see the KVIL van, but let me offer a thought from a visual impairment point of view. If the station logo type stuff was, for whatever reason, hard to see for someone who has 20/20 vision, then just imagine how many people with poor eyesight would have had problems seeing it altogether.

Too much speculation for me. Let's move on to something more interesting to talk about, eh?

It might be for "you", but if you aren't the Promotions Director, that's to be understood. Real promotions managers should be interested and concerned about this.

If you (or anyone) have a picture of said van, send it to me, and I'll give you an unbiased opinion.

Well, of course. I'm pretty sure they're not reading this forum, though, so it's wasted energy here. Station contact info, including the promotion director's email address, is here. Maybe time would be better spent writing a well thought out, polite email stating how you don't think the colors work well, instead of trying to get a rise out of people on a public forum.

For someone who is about the same age as myself, and who has worked in radio since the same age, you sure are acting a bit childish here. I'm trying to offer an opinion, not an argument. You could learn a few things from others, you know. Right now it appears to me you're just burning bridges. If that's the way you want it... so be it. No one else will be able to help you, and that is sad because that is the perfect example of wasting time, and life...

You're trying to offer an opinion of a logo on a van you've never seen at an event you were never at?

A "general" opinion. My dad was an art teacher in DISD for 20+ years. He knows a few things about designs. Having said that, I offered to give an unbiased opinion if a photo of the van was presented to me. The offer still stands.

Public forums is a way to get messages across, without the "red tape" Bs. BTW Ben many Om's Gm"s,and PD's read the posts in their respective markets and nationwide overall. They won't admit it for the most part just like well known names won't . So be it. As the legendary Hubcap Carter stated shortly before his death, when he discovered this site, "its like a bar" "where we can discuss things freely openly ,and at times raise tempers". One last thing I would read what Robert Bass tried to tell you a little more openly again. He was 'reaching" out to you and trying to offer assistance. Read well before you get defensive.

Fair enough. Didn't mean to step on your toes. It just seems like many of the posts here are intended to invoke an emotional response out of people and I'm a bit on edge this week after Julie's accident yesterday. Sorry...
