MP3 Radio

Heard what sounded like another pirate tonight MP3 Radio at 98.5. Sounded good, just wish it would make it to my house!

Could this be the one out of the Plaza Midwood section of Charlotte? They did an article on this station in Creative Loafing at one time, plays mostly oldies when I've heard it, but does sound good.

Guys,

This is one of the best stations I ever heard. This music and jingles are just plain amazing, while playing an excellent variety of classic "true oldies" songs. Even the hits that are replayed are the best anywhere.

Long live this station forever.. :D

Question... What ever happened to 87.9 fm off of lawyers rd near albemarle rd? They seem to be not tuned on recently?

That sounds about right. I heard it as I was leaving Landmark Diner on Central and it faded fast as I traveled east.

Those cakes are just plain amazing too. Too many to choose from.. I do try to make breakfast more like a brunch, since the portions are bigger than most places.

A couple of times as I have driven down Monroe Rd or Independence I have caught MP3 Radio. I wish they had chosen a better frequency. It gets clobbered by a religious station fairly quickly. I believe the religious station is in Indian Trail.

Still playing some very fine music when I heard them!

Mp3Radio is using a vertically polarized antenna. If you’ve got one of those fine window antennas you’re picking up a vertical and horizontal signal at the same. Mp3 is vertical and the translator is circular. Also broadcast signals don’t go very far when their antenna is at a height of 30’. :D

Many years ago when I started the neighborhood flea powered oldies station there was no translator on 98.5. It still covers my neighbor hood just fine, and I do love those oldies.

Keep up the good work, you have a great selection, just be careful. I have one of each 1 car has a window antenna and the other the standard rob, they are both about the same.

You need to get that Antenna higher in the air. That is the Key to your transmission and subsequently the limit of your transmission site. I was in Center City, CLT over the Weekend and heard the MP3Radio-Oldies Show. GREAT Oldies I might add, but reception leaves something to be desired. I did have to travel back to Rock Hill SC on Sunday. I listened to the "Fabulous Fifties" on Sunday, about all the way between Arrowood Road and Westinghouse Blvd. VERY IMPRESSIVE for a ''Flea Powered'' Radio Signal MP3RADIOGUY.

That got MP3RADIO to the ''State Line'' but not into South Carolina.

This Guy definitely knows ''his Oldies''. That is a Given... What he might not be versed in is Antenna Design. Or maybe he is, and it is actually that he is ''challenged'' with his transmitter location geographics.

My Friends do not recognize the type of his Antenna he is transmitting from --- so I don't have details. I do not know.

Yes... but you started out on 98.3 MHZ??? Back Before Belmont and the Religious Bible-Bet tried to spread ''their Word''??? :)

I Guess You Switched Frequencies in 2003 Due To The Signal From Belmont, NC... That worked until the Joy-FM Transmitter went live from Indian Trail... ;-)

Wow, someone has an excellent memory.

In 02 I decided to put a 100 watt LPFM Oldies station on air in Charlotte (missed Magic 96). I did a frequency search but no LPFM frequencies available. So I chose at that time a clear frequency of 98.3 and did the oldies thing until the Translators starting taking over local frequencies. I then moved to 98.5 way back in 04. The Indian Trail station isn’t really a problem because I’m more than 5 miles away from their weakest fringe coverage signal.

Since I started broadcasting, no less than 7 new translators have gone on the air in the area and most have no local programming…makes sense right. LPFM continues to take a back seat to the translators. ???

Thanks FCC.

Calvin used to run a LPFM on 98.7 years ago. I wonder if that's available? Also Lake Wylie Radio used to be on 94.7 I believe (WFBC's frequency). Seems like the FCC should have something? Your format is really missed around here.

I think the key is to license it to a small community (Derita, Mint Hill, etc). The FCC really loves that.

That was 93.7 and was absolutely useless due to WFBC in Greenville. It was a terrible frequency. MP3Radioguy, why don't ypou stream online? You could even be added to app like Tune In??? You may get quite a following locally. I know I'd listen.

Thanks for the correction, I was just going on memory. It was a terrible frequency as is 98.5. So are there any FM frequencies in the clear around here?

For low power or a translator, I would think 93.1, 94.7, 100.1 or 101.5 would be good choices. 93.1 and 100.1 would probably be bad choices in northeast Charlotte, but would work fine in the rest of the city.

:)I am confused why 98.5 is an issue. Charlotte's NASCAR racetrack in Concord uses 91.1 FM to simulcast their christmas music during November, December and January. That station location has a BBN station{supposedly a LPFM} broadcasting sometimes very clearly from South Carolina in Concord,NC. NASCAR has has been doing several years now. Why has that not been considered a problem?
