MSNBC PERMANENTLY CANCELS DON IMUS

SalesWeasel said:
It was a joke, albeit a bad one, and nobody got hurt. The girls would NEVER have heard about it (as if they listen to Imus) if the MSM hadn't gone ape over it. And I meant "Ape" as in "Crazy" not anything else. Wait. Can I say "crazy?" Dang it!
It was NOT a joke. It was a racist, sexist statement from an Archie Bunker.

The MSM is NOT the one who got onto this first. It was the Black Aasociation of Journalists, bloggers, a few talk show hosts such as Joe Madison and one MSM outlet, The New York Times.

It wasn't planned. It was an adlib. A BAD ONE! Rev. Al Sharpton has called many "crackers' ,"whitey", "p_ _ _ _ R Woods" Rev Jackson and his Operation P.U.S.H. years back gave the impoverished Children in his neighborhood a free breakfast and a coloring Book depicting the Police as "PIGS" chasing children, etc, and even had drawings of kids with guns shooting at them.He also called those wof the Jewish faith living in NYC "Hymie Town" . Were these racists ever told not to do a radio show and fired?? NOPE. They never apologized either. Imus Did many times over. Its a double standard. Hot 97 never fired their Host for insensitivity due to that Tsunami parody " swim lil bitches swim". The hip hop music uses racist slurs, along with "Ho" "bitch" shooting cops. and thats acceptable? Hypocrisy is what it is ,plain and simple. If Imus is fired then all Hip hopo formats need to be banned, fired etc,and quit living the double standard of conscience.

It was planned. Imus expanded on a remark. It was not off the cuff.

Imus HAD (note my past tense as he's TOAST and certainly will be let go from CBS & WW1) a duty to keep the bar higher and to not make racist, sexist and homophobic comments since he was entertaining top Washington pols, top network journalists and other top newsmakers. He wasn't a RAP MUSIC radio d.j. although his language might land him a job working as one.

Imus did himself in and handled this whole situation AS BADLY as you could. He was protected too long by top pols and network executives milking racism for green and noteriety. It's LONG overdue that this RACIST got his. America gains from his firing. The line in the sand has been drawn. The bar will no longer be lowered.

And it is only a matter of time before he is re-hired...perhaps even in New York City, perhaps elsewhere, perhaps nationally.

So, while the racial minders have their blood, has the national debate about race relations really gone anywhere? Or are we still stuck in the habit of getting blood, patting ourselves on the back, and then moving on to applaud black success stories, regardless of the fruits of their success (e.g., Jay Z, Sean Combs, et al.)

What, exactly, have we learned? That if you make a statement that is impolite, you get fired.

Looks like I'm out of a job. I called an argument made by opposing counsel the other day "bulls**t".

I also find it interesting that you posit, mostb1, that if Imus was a rap DJ, this would be excusable.

My answer is--why? Is it not always racist?

Bravo! You too, KPLEXCOMPLEX.

I bet Free-FM would hire Imus. They'll hire anybody.
They're both CBS. CBS sure has a history of promoting racism, sexism, homophobia and the most disgusting stunts - all for GREEN ..Janet, Imus, Stern, Opie & Anthony and a number of hosts on all their failing Free FM's. Seems to me it's time for a FCC investigation into CBS.

MOSTB1 is one who would rather shout, yell, and point fingers and judge without searching for facts. Notice he doesn't condemn Rev Jackson, Rev Sharpton and I use the title "Reverend" Loosely for their bigotry and Racist comments of years past through present. He doesn't Condemn Hot 97 for its racist attempt at comedy when hundreds dies. or the shootout in front of their studios by rival artists. He doesn't condemn their thuggery. He doesn't comdemn the violence promoted by hip hop music, mainly because these miserable excuses are of one culture and sure isn't humanity. He sees Imus as bigot, but its ok for Spike Lee to say the opposite about Whites and he's called an artist. Mostb1 you area living definition of hypocrisy and bigotry.

Again, spinning this towards me only makes you look foolish. The MAN of the hour is Don Imus. He's in the hot seat. If you want to ask about Sharpton, ask Imus, he went to him to save his skin. WHY?

I live in Los Angeles. I don't get to listen to Hot 97 but if you ask those on the Los Angeles board or search my post history, you'll see I am quite critical of Emmis.

Spike Lee? Re-post anything I've said about him. Here's the first: I met him a number of times here in Hollywood over my years of working at a black- targeted Los Angeles FM, The Beat.

I called this entire saga on what would happen with Imus to a T from my first post. It was so easy to see he was IMPLODING on his own and every step he made WAS THE WRONG ONE. And I also told many on this board that this story was HUGE when they thought it was nothing. I keep my ears to the ground and have provided many a talk show host with info. before it ever got near the MSM. Some of you are just so far removed from reality, its funny...or sad.

Not only have I SEARCHED for the facts (of which I knew most already), I've posted them IN this forum. So get real and stop making such silly posts.

Imus isn't a stupid man. He had to know this was going to happen. Probably just wanted to get out of the biz. His bit was old years ago. CBS and MSNBC now can save some money which believe me is all they care about anyway. The next guy won't be making the big bucks Imus made.

This is why I always hated Imus. He always had a comment about how ugly someone is or how ridiculous they looked. When he is ugly as sin and looks ridiculous with that awful cowboy hat.

and yet his staff and his guests make comments on how old/wrinkled/turkey necked he is. They've called him a pedophile for marrying a women so many years his younger. They make comments about him being a drunk and a cokehead.

And, amazingly, Imus never fired the staff members, and neither Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson ewver screamed racism about these people making such insulting comments about an old white man.

Call me crazy, but just maybe Sharpton and Jackson were silent because there was nothing remotely racial about these incidents.

You appear to be one of those folks who lives out in a place where the buses don't run.

My final comment to you and to MostB1....

I do pity both of you. I do so hope that you are more forgiving of people in your own life when they screw up and make a terrible mistake in a moment of nonthinking.

As for myself, I tend to look at what a person does, rather than what they say. As an Imus listener for 30 years, I know all his outrageous comments from the past. I also know the man has raised millions for the Hackensack Children's Medical Center, millions more for the Intrepid Fund for Fallen Heroes, spent millions of his money, and countless hours, with his ranch for kids with cancer, took every politician to task for the lapse in care at Walter Reed and VA hospitals, and was one of the few voices on the national stage to call into question why blacks in New Orleans were left to die, while whites were being bussed out.

The man has done much more good than bad, and his loss from the airwaves will be felt, hardest, by children with cancer (and their families), and veterans who rely on him to voice outrage.

A two second mistake has led to this. And people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and the ones on here who are quick to condemn have carried it for over a week. You all can now feel proud, and strut and feel as if you've accomplished something. Then tomorrow, what will you all do for the kids and the veterans?

mostb1, you have still failed to address this statement of yours:

He wasn't a RAP MUSIC radio d.j. although his language might land him a job working as one.

Why would it make a difference? Why is the same language excusable in one on-air position, and not the other?

You made the statement, not I. So, explain yourself.

"The man has done much more good than bad, and his loss from the airwaves will be felt, hardest, by children with cancer (and their families), and veterans who rely on him to voice outrage.

Before you get too weepy and sanctimonious, consider the following: He doesn't need to be on the air to lend a hand to kids with cancer. He's got a ton of money...he'll have more time on his hands...perhaps he can spend time with them in person. Meanwhile, there are plenty of people around to voice outrage about the veterans scandal--I'm one of them. It's not like he broke that story. You can thank Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who did the legwork and the reporting. Imus just flapped his gums about it.

And you might reflect on the fact that if any kids with cancer miss him on the air, black kids--especially those with nappy hair, and other black people, will be more than happy to hear someone else in his place.

I don't have to wait until tomorrow to do something for the kids and veterans. I already support an impoverished child in India through one of the child care programs--it's a monthly credit card deduction program. I also recently made a small contribution to the Paralyzed Veterans of America--I wish it could have been more, and it would have been if I weren't also supporting the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center--which fights racism throughout America and Klan activity (yes it still goes on) in the South.

So..uh...what are you doing?
