MSNBC To Air "The Stephanie Miller Show" Next Week

Excellent!!

Finally some good programming :)

I totally agree! :) I can't wait!!! :) :) :) :)

It's only next Monday-Wednesday but hopefully the powers that be will realize why Countdown with Keith Olbermann gets such great ratings (his show beat Orally last Friday) -- people are hungry for shows with progressive points of view -- and lock Stephanie in that time slot permanently.

I love her show and I can't wait to see her on MSNBC.

Not sure if I agree with Oblmermann's 'great ratings success' against~ however this is a very smart move by MSNBC.

If Miller can keep it light, this could turn out to be a wise move. I mean, there's only one way to go for MSNBC in Imus' slot at this point..

If MSNBC wanted her for the Imus slot, how would that happen?

Would she move to NYC and broadcast from Imus' old stage?

If they wanted her, I'd imagine they could work out a way to film her as she does the show live in Los Angeles. MSNBC is moving from Secaucus to New York this fall, so unless Stephanie wanted to move the show to New York, I think they'd go with just airing her show live from Los Angeles.

but, how? Imus' slot is EST, so she would have to do her show simulcast at 3 am...That's not gonna happen....Time delay? Bad idea on a TV medium, where things need to be 'live'..She could do 2 shows, but thats alot of work...I cant see how they make it work with Miller unless she is committed to moving to the East Coast.

You're totally correct, evnlee. That slipped my mind. Then again, I'm pretty sure if MSNBC wanted her, Stephanie wouldn't have any problem moving the show to New York. Reaching an audience on two mediums is a very big deal.

...plus, Steph already has a favourable history with the NBC Cable networks (co-hosting "Equal Time" on America's Talking, the predecessor to MSNBC)...

Yep.

I'm also looking forward to Stephanie Miller on AAR. The show is quite entertaining, and a surprising number of conservatives think so too.

I would prefer experiencing Stephanie Miller on television. She's an attractive lass, and on television one can turn the sound off. I have no doubts that Ms. Miller was selected to appear on MSNBC as much for her winsome appearance as for the content of what she says.

After all, on radio "fair and balanced" means putting a liberal and a conservative on the mic. On television, it means putting a blonde and a brunette on the screen.

from Free Republic:
>>Who is this clown they have in Imus' old spot on MSNBC? This person they have on today in his slot is horrible! Forget that host sounds like a total moonbat,it's like they copied Laura Ingram's show except made the format even more obnoxious. There is a news network that has totally lost it's direction and identity. They are becoming the "Pennysaver" newspaper of cable news.

from Save Progressive Talk Boston Yahoo Group:
>>I am watching her this morning and it is hilarious! Shes doing a great job on TV! I am posting to suggest that everyone email MSNBC and voice their opinion! It may help tip the balance as far as making Steph a permanent fixture on TV!

[One FR post says that Miller accused the President and Condi of having an affair.]

There is absolutely no comparison between Laura and Stephanie beyond the fact they are both women. Ingraham's show bears no relationship to SM in any way. Sounds like another Freeper who doesn't have a clue and is trying to unload those sour grapes.

A more fair and balanced review of SM this morning would be that it is, like most of these things, a radio talk show with cameras. Stephanie was also incredibly nervous (was I the only one who noticed the underarm sweat on the magic purple sweater she was wearing?) I kept expecting that sweater would disappear after the commercial break, replaced with something else, but she kept on going.

Stephanie was speaking in hyper-warp speed, and it turned out to be much easier to follow her on radio than on television. The mooks were also much quieter than normal, and Jim Ward resembled Christopher Reeve in his wheelchair - he definitely needs to loosen up. Reading off the spiral notebook didn't help either. Usually when Stephanie gets out of control or loses her train of thought, one of the mooks picks up the slack, but that happened a lot less this morning.

I put this all on nerves. Going into a strange studio and dealing with the equipment and atmosphere is not easy for a radio show host who normally sits in an enclosed and familiar studio every day. And because Miller's show is heavily dependent on the add-on effects and bits, when something starts to go wrong, it becomes very quickly apparent.

Overall, it did work and was fun, but she needs to slow down and calm down. We'll see how Tuesday and Wednesday goes. It seems there is going to be a whole parade of guest shows on MSNBC in the morning, and Miller has said on her show she doesn't want a permanent MSNBC gig.

After seeing her hyperkinetic performance with that dingbat who was trying soooo hard to be a kind of Gary Owens and laughing on cue to her attempts at humor I don't think she'll have to worry that it is going to be a permanent fixture on MSNBC. Somehow Roger Ailes' comment many years about Paula Zahn is quite apropos.

Can we all say together, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!"

Same as in Los Angeles -- thanks to Lady Clairol.

I am now and have always been a strong advocate of looking beyond the obvious spots for broadcast talent, including people from other media. But I'm also a strong advocate of doing all that's possible to give those new talents a fighting chance. Stephanie Miller should have been given the chance to do a few "pilot" episodes for practice to get comfortable with being on television. Making the transition from radio to television isn't cosmically difficult, and anyone who is reasonably good at one medium should be able, with some coaching and practice, to transition to the other.

But the key words are "with some coaching and practice". Apparently, Ms. Miller was not given those critical things. Or, she wasn't given enough.

Some of the reactions to Stephanie are more predictable than snow in winter around here. At least some of us are willing to put our personal politics on hold when evaluating her.

What does personal politics have to do with observing that someone simply talks too fast?

I'm neither a Republican or Democrat...I looked on her performance as a media professional.

She's doing far better this morning... getting into her groove. And her self-deprecating side (a refreshing change from the comedic ego and pomposity some show hosts use as shtick) has allowed her to turn her perspiration problem into a bit.
