MT. WILSON FIRE THREAT?

That hot spot on the ridge is cooking solidly as of 4:25am ET. Looks like KCBS may be having some issues soon.
 
It's 1:40 AM and the orange hot spot looks like it's actually touching the KCBS tower. But I know that these images can be deceptive and this may not be the case. I won't be convinced until I see flames shooting up the tower.
 
I guess it's just the ridge on fire right behind the tower. When the beacon lights go off I guess that's when we'll know that tower is close to being history. I have to go to sleep soon. Don't know what will be left of that hill in the morning when I wake up.

CBS chopper said to get up at 3 a.m.

Wow - Major flash at the base and part way up the CBS 2 tower @ 2:05. Obvious flames seen in these web cam shot. Looks like it has wrapped around the base of the tower or is a flare up behind the tower - maybe on the ridge? Something going on there - or nearby.
 
Just walked out on my front lawn and the flames look pretty big from where I am, but they have not yet reached the towers. I can still see the cbs tower up and running and the fire still has a way to go before it reaches them. The sky above the mountains is glowing bright orange and is an eerie sight. hopefully the fire does not reach Mt Wilson before dawn so the tankers can get up there and drop more water and fire retardant at daybreak.

Watching from Kentucky. Shame to see this occur.

Hope the tower farm survives.
 
LA market has 85 percent cable coverage with satellite and cable, but 15% could lose OTA feeds if things get nasty. FM's with transmitters and STL's will have a more difficult time.

Looks like flames behind the CBS tower haven't make it to the top of the mountain as yet, but the web cam sure makes it look like it has.

In addition to what she terms "a shaky helicopter" she is also breathing right into her pilot mike thingy.

Yesterday, Larry Welk called Chopper 2 "an underpowered beast."

AMELIA EARHART is the pilot today. Please tell me, that's a name for "Maria Goochinkowski" or something. Please.

KNBC-TV (channel 4) is now simulcasting channel 52 on its 4.2 stream and channel 22 on its 4.4 stream. a crawl at the bottom of the screen on channel 52 (although i don't read spanish) says something about a fire on mount wilson, hit rescan on your tv, and can watch on 4.2 or 4.4... hopefully someone who knows spanish can tell us what the hell is going on!

also noticed that channel 52.1 has channel 4 on its 52.2 channel... looks like they are preparing for a meltdown and hoping to have something left to transmit with. anyone know anything?

all vhf/uhf stations appear to be on the air with full signals

regarding fm radio. 107.5 is dramatically weaker than usual and i have no hd signal here in anaheim. also... 93.1 and 94.7 both seem to be weaker and their hd signal is completely out of sync with the analog carrier. i wonder if they have cut their analog signals off of mount wilson and over to backup at the kroq site. anyone have any info?
 
FM's on Mt. Wilson have reportedly lowered power, according to poster David Eduardo, to ease transmission line arcing to the transmitters if the tower farm is consumed in flame and heat.

Many STL's are, of course.
