MT. WILSON FIRE THREAT?

Smoke from the Ca. fires have been drifting here into the Colorado Springs / Denver area for the last 3 days...amazing!

Direct link to the 9/2/09 Tom Taylor Newsletter ("TRI-Taylor on Radio-Info") here:

http://radio-info.com/newsletter/html/tri-09022009.html

First 4 stories deal with the L.A. fires & how it relates to L.A. radio & disaster contingency plans. Summarized:

CBS Radio moves 4 FM's off Mt. Wilson for now;
FCC help to licensees - Special Temporary Authority & link to detailed procedures on assistance;
Arbitron monitoring L.A. PPM in-tab responses;
L.A. T.V. criticized for anemic disaster coverage.

A sincere thank you to every poster who contributed something of value to this thread.

Your information was very revealing, your questions interesting and your help with links, pictures, video feed info, reactions, etc. made this a most valueable resource.

As Mt. Wilson truly was threatened, this thread on Radio-Info has been, what I've found, to be the greatest source of breaking news of them all. Several people coming together, watching live chopper video, listening to the radio, watching TV news or online print, were able to bring us up-to-date quicker than so many other sources.

A personal thank you to you, oaktree, because your coverage on this Mt. Wilson threat has been unbeatable. Your dedication, (news marathon) and diligence is remarkable. I know it has got to be appreciated by so many in this industry worried about their equipment and towers. Radio-Info is lucky to have you-- a true newsman, making Radio-Info Los Angeles the go-to place for the latest.

Thank you, KOOL Listener Lauren, so very much. And thank you for your contributions here, as well. Welcome to Los Angeles, once more. Thanks, again.

Per the "CGC Communicator" email newsletter ...

Station personnel are being permitted back on Mt. Wilson. It's still considered an active fire zone, so things could still change ... but it's looking very good.

An escorted convoy of need-to-be-there folks will be allowed onto Mt. Lukens tomorrow (Thursday) for a few hours.
