Thought WNCX was "North Coast Xcitement".
IIRC, the GC in WGCL stood for General Cinema, as the General Cinema Corporation owned WGCL. The bonus of having GC in the call letters was that it could also stand for Greater Cleveland. I forgot what the the L stood for, if anything. I was an usher as the General Cinema theater at Southgate in 1971. GC owned quite a few theaters in the area at the time and during the 70's.nightfly61 said:Same with the old 107.3 WBEA,=B-107

Didn't WGCL stand for "We're Greater CLeveland"?
johnbasalla said:I never heard that meaning for WGCL, but it makes sense. I do remember the WNCX was supposed to mean "North Coast Express". Someone ratted them out to WMMS who then called themselves "The North Coast Express" for awhile, thus screwing up the new handle for the soon-to-be new call letters WNCX.
