MUSIC ON 106.9

So is "Copacabana" and "Staying Alive," yet The Point isnt playing them. Anything by Frankie Vali is usually considered oldies (though WLTW plays Oh What A Night on a regular basis).

I've always considered it a Pop AC record myself because up until the interest in 70's music at oldies, none of them woulc touch the record, but I sure played it working at AC stations. That song and "More Than A Feeling" were the only decent records in the library at one AC I jocked.

As for Copacabana, no I haven't heard it yet, but I did hear The Pina Colada Song over the Memorial Day weekend... I did a double-take when I heard it, but it made my wife almost blow out the speakers in the car. Apparently her Sorority sisters would get drunk and sing that at karaoke...<P ID="signature">______________

On JACK in Dallas I've heard "Oh What A Night," "Stayin Alive" and the Pina Colada song, but thank you Lord, no Manilow.

In a way I'm reminded of the early days of what was arguably one of the country's finest album rock stations, Dallas' KZEW. Picture if you will a somewhat mellow set on the overnight ZOO in 1975 that contained mainstays like Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and the Stones, along with Dave Mason and Gino Vanelli and a tune in the middle of the set called "Sally Go Round' The Roses" by the Jaenettes. That's right, a moody 60's Top 40 song in the midst of mid 70's AOR. Guess what? It worked, at least for me because I remember it to this day. The Zoo was full of surprises, like Clapton to Zappa, King Crimson to Minnie Riperton. We all agree about the whole problem with the Point; it's just too narrow and predictable. But maybe somebody is beginning to see the error of their ways. They may get the point without getting Jack-ed.

Actually, there was an eighties mix of "Oh What A Night" somewhere around 87-88. I have copies of both versions.
