I just heard the "Musicradio -W L S" jingle of old on Greg Brown's show. I wonder if the "Chicago's True Oldies Channel" moniker and Scott Shannon are on their way out!

I've heard this jingle, and many other vintage WLS jingles before on 94.7. When we have the local feed (Brown, Biondi, etc.), they tag the station as WLS. When Shannon is on the air he still tags it as The True Oldies Channel, which makes me sick to my stomach!

It would seem some of the posters here are not Scott Shannon fans. Are you just not fans of him,
or the True Oldies format in general? Based on what I've heard, 94.7 is doing well in the ratings.
Reading some of the posts on boards around the country, oldies fans seem to be glad there is
someone like Shannon keeping the oldies format from sounding like the "same old same old"
tight playlisted formats that most of the corporate oldies stations seem to be in love with.
Maybe Shannon's style can be a little over-the-top at times, but at least he's trying something
a little different.

It's hard to argue with success, but I prefer WLS-FM when it's live to the canned Shannon. Too bad they wouldn't invest in some local talent to play Shannon's format (good rotations of a decent variety of music) and drop the "True-Oldies" positioners for the ones we remember on a great radio station.

To the posters who like Shannon, they have no clue to the history of Chicago radio. While this has been discussed before, I will say Shannon is NOT Chicago radio. This doesn't mean he isn't a good personality--it just means he doesn't fit the "Chicago Mode".

Im my opinion, 94.7 does oldies better than 104.3 did in the last 6 years it existed. Scott Shannon does a great job picking the songs for the playlist. Of course, the local guys on the air sound the best!

Actually, if you look at the Arbitron ratings, Scott Shannon has the highest ratings on the station.

Let's face it, Brandt Miller is no Lujack.

Radio Bro's & Sister's-
'Tis true, Chicago has it's own terrific, one of a kind sound and broadcast history. As far as Mr. Miller not being a Larry Lujack......NOBODY BUT LARRY LUJACK CAN BE LARRY LUJACK! What always made Chicago Radio sound so much bigger than life is that the air talent was the absolute best of the best no matter the decade. The fact that everybody's air sound was different from one another just added to how wonderful Chicago Radio was and still is in my opinion. Man I gotta tell ya, back in the 60's & 70's and forward to present, Chicago has the finest radio talent and product in the country. I wish I could've worked there just to be able to say it! I've heard some of my network commercials play on ABC radio. I guess that's sayin' somethin'.

I have been listening to Danny Lake's Saturday Night Party on WLS-FM and I have to say I really enjoy
the show. I think the music variety is great, and Danny is a great host. He also plays the jingles a lot
more often than I hear the rest of the time(even though that is improving as well). I think the station
sounds and feels much more like a Chicago station than it did before the call letter change.

I know a lot of people don't care for Scott Shannon, but, he is getting great ratings and not costing
them any money in middays or overnights so I don't see him going anywhere. I would rather see
someone local as well, but, strictly from a business standpoint it would not make sense for Citadel,
being in the financial condition that they are in to replace him.

I also want to say I am in my mid 30's and I listen to the station quite often. I only write that because
it has been said that oldies is a "geezer" format, yet if you look at the PPM's WLS-FM is doing great
in the overall ratings which is often discounted, but, they are also doing extremely well in 25-54(8th place) as
well as the 18-34(10th place). They are beating stations such as Q101 that targets 18-34 males. So much for
the oldies is an "unsellable" format argument. At least in Chicago.

Hey Bro-
You and some other very smart people are hip to everything you posted. You are either very observant as a listener or in the biz. Either way, amen to everything you've pointed out. A question my friend.....does 'LS FM stream live? I guess I could answer that one myself by just pulling up the station on the web.

Hello to Chicago,
Bob O'Shea

Hello to Chicago,

Thanks for the compliment Bob! WLS-FM does stream live, here is a link to their website.

Interesting that a format apparently initially tossed on the air "on the cheap" seems to be succeeding better than all those other format on 94.7. Maybe WLS-FM has finally found it's niche after some many failed attempts?

It was wonderful to hear two nights in a row of great, fun radio and VERY Chicago sounding which is a treat. The amazing Dick Biondi on Friday night and with Danny Lake on Saturday nights with the request party. WLS 94.7 sounds great and really stands out from other stations.

It could be better, but this is a good start.

I do agree that Dick Biondi is great as he always has been.
I sure wish they'd let him play more 50s & 60s music like he did when he first came to 94.7

I agree they should because you don't hear that music enough, even though Scott Shannon preaches that he's keeping that music alive. Biondi's show has a sound different from the rest of the station, which is good.

to put "True Oldies" next to "WLS" is truly an insult.

And yes scott shannon is over the top. Can you say obnoxious. I saw him on a tv interview with Tom Snyder back in the 80s. What class Tom had. Scott just sat there like a thug. No wonder dj's get a bad name. From what i hear scott still acts like a thug.
