WABB used to ID Mobile, Pensacola, Fort Walton and Biloxi... I think they finally dropped those fringe markets.
Back in the early 80's Fort Walton didn't have many FM's, so the Mobile, Pensacola, Dothan, and Panama City stations targeted and had listeners there. Now FWB has a dominant Cumulus cluster and a dozen other FM stations... they have become their own market.
The Pensacola and Mobile markets share a tower farm so they share stations... it's kinda weird. All formats except rock are duplicated and target one city, but they also provide competition (alternatives) to the other city. WYCL was the only class C to keep their transmitter in Florida, now they are going to conform with the other stations and move to Robertsdale... no big deal for their hometown, Pensacola. Good deal for their secondary market of Mobile.
As for Pensacola/Fort Walton or Fort Walton/Pensacola stations WTKE and WKSM still claim that...
My main question is what will become of WYCL's old tower? It's too tall to become a cell phone tower, isn't it? Could WRRX or some of the Pensacola LPTV's move there?
