MY 830 AM

Dont know where this is coming from but insteas of picking up spanish I am picking up classic hits on 830 AM as MY830 AM. Its clear like its New Orleans. Can anyone confirm this? If not where is this station?

Quick question Smashed, Is what your'e hearing is maybe the "former?" La Fabulosa 830? If your'e hearing a strong signal in the daytime in Livingston, it could be the newest owner changed from Spanish to this format. The towers are in the Bonnet Carre Spillway. It is now owned by Sunburst.

New to the forums...interesting posts, interesting people.

I have a theory...Sunburst owns both 830 and KCIL 107.5, which has a construction permit that expires in a week and a half to move to the KKND tower. I think they want to move the 830 Spanish format to 107.5 to be the first Spanish FM in New Orleans. Anybody else think this is probable?

I think it's gonna expire as they would have had to jump hard to make it happen right now unless everything is down there as it doesn't leave them enough time to test and license. unless they fake it. as right now they are on the Theriot tower

BTW, It's basically their money making station and I think the owners wanted a way to recoup the investment if stuff went south. Plus they were able to sneak a move of 96.7 KMYO from Morgan City to Gray,Louisiana that way bringing the station actually closer to Houma.

Truthfully, I'd expect some of the also ran stations on FM to possibly go spanish soon enough.. however other than the Citadel cluster I don't see that currently.

Interesting that you should mention Citadel. KKND currently has Spanish programming on their HD-2 channel - possible foreshadowing? Although honestly the combined numbers the two Spanish stations pull (0.9 in last survey), I have to question, is it worth it?

Its nighttime ops does shrink to 750 watts, so to pick up something more powerful in Livingston would be quite possible.

If you are picking this station up in the daytime, however, then yeah, it definitely flipped.

I am surprised that New Orleans does not have an FM station en espanol by now. I'm sure that will happen by the end of the year, if not by the end of this month.

My guess is with low numbers I won't see that for a while. Only reason BR has one is only because the owner wanted to get his FM out of Franklin.

There are the spanish population here but most are transients who are from Texas and Mexico mainly with cell phones only so I wouldn't expect to see them reported. There isn't enough stations that I would say would be loosing right now other than citadel to warrant a flip.

933 is correct though, he didn't say when as the 830 signal is supposed to be a 10kw daytimer, but could have been testing, or we have seen signals come that far on AM at times as their is a 640 am that throws 50kw in Memphis that can be heard many times if KTIB goes off the air.

Yeah that station out of Memphis is WCRV-AM and it puts out 50kW during daytime ops. It will be an affiliate of the Saints Radio Network, which is good news because the network will be able to cover Northern Mississippi and Arkansas like never before. At nighttime, the station powers down to 480 watts, but by then WWL will cover that area and beyond.

So what is the verdict, is La Fabulosa still fabulous or did the gueros flip it to an english-speaking station?

You are hearing KOTC Kennett, Mo. I hear them here in Alabama almost every night, when they "forget" to go off the air. Nice to hear decent music on AM.
