After a hiatus from local radio, the last few days I've been scrolling through the FM stations while in the car, and I've quickly remembered why I dislike WFBQ:
A) Would it kill them to have a little more variety in terms of classic rock? I think I can count on two hands the number of artists that are played on that station on a regular basis. AC/DC, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Bob Seger, well, I think that's about half of them anyway. Local classic rock radio just hasn't been same since the old 101.9 WKLU was sold!
B) Does Van Halen's Runnin' with the Devil really need to be played every three or four hours?
C) Bob & Tom. Do that many people really enjoy their lowbrow, blue collar humor? And that constant snickering into the microphone is enough to drive one insane. How they've managed to score national syndication is beyond me.
D) Oops...before we proceed to E), let's stand by for another 6 minute commercial break.
E) The whole "Q95" branding thing has always bugged me, although I say the same for any FM stations that brand themselves without providing the complete FM frequency. Sure, locals know where to find it on the radio dial, but for a station that has a number of billboards around 465 advertising "Q95", you've gotta think that many people from out of town are left playing a guessing game on their FM dial trying to figure it out. Let's see, is it 94.9...nope...maybe 95.1...nope, not that either. I know the "Q95" name goes way back, but nonetheless, kudos to the marketing geniuses at Clear Channel who decided to blow money on billboard advertising without providing the details.
That is all
