I hear of jocks using a myspace account to keep in contact with listeners. How many in the D/FW area have one or use it with your listeners?
Doc Bryce said:I used to use my to keep in touch with my listeners, but the company that I work for doesn't like the use of the net, and so all of us jocks had to remove all company/station reference from our myspace accounts. It was a great way for them to keep up with our remotes and appearances.
www.myspace.com/docbryce I still put all my pics and other things up there. It’s easier to keep up with than my full blown web site!
It was fun while it lasted!

Now why on earth would a radio station be against the internet?? Defies logic. Typical though. All about CONTROL.
BKane said:Myspace can be of use to jocks, and to stations, but the overiding problem is that it stations need to have a singular image/brand. And, while employed at a station, your image is their property. We dream of stations putting our name on billboards all over town. It's a symbiotic relationship.
Stations have caught on to the power of the web and are now building much better websites.
I created and owned DJ.NET back before stations had well built and maintained websites. And I developed a simple to use page-creator that thousands of DJ's used. This was before Myspace. There were millions of page views on those DJ pages.
Then stations began creating DJ pages and giving jocks their own station-branded email addresses. A very smart move.
The downward trend of stations sending page hits to third party sites began. That's when I sold out in 2002.
Now, I still think anyone in the public eye should have their own "dot com" with their name. But they should probably keep it fairly generic while employed.

As have I. Yet another reason why I feel use of myspace by jocks will decline...in a year.
Don't be surprised if CC launches a myspace-like site for jocks & listeners.
