Mystery station on 1100KHZ

trusty said:
THIS THREAD has some info about WWWE/1100 in Atlanta changing formats with a couple of posts referring to them staying on at night.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no more detail there than here.

I'll be of no help, unless that 50 kW monster a few miles away signs off one night...

The station I have been hearing airs Dave Ramsey in the 6pm-7pm hour. During that time, the WWWE internet stream was ESPN spanish.

Was in Greensboro NC this weekend, and very briefly listened to 1100. At around 7PM, WTAM was booming in, but I was able to hear another talk station (very weak) under Cleveland.

This morning at 6am CST, I finally heard an ID, BUT it sounded like a daytimer sign-on. A lady's voice said something like, "This is WSGI serving northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky with 1,000 watts on 1100 kilocycles..." Then she asked for listener response about their signal.

Earlier in the night, I couldn't make out any ID's through the slop in WTAM's null, but it seemed to be the same voice I had heard during breaks in (what seemed to be) satellite programming - with a sign-on programmed into the schedule. ???

Can anyone near Nashville confirm whether or not WSGI has been broadcasting at night?

I'm trying to eliminate the possibles list.

Anyone down South able to pick up WCGA Woodbine GA (Jax FL area)? If so, what do they program, and are they on after daylight hours?

WSGI Springfied TN web stream is an oldies format, so probably not them
WWWI in Hapeville GA is ESPN Spanish
WISS Berlin WI is oldies
KKLL Webb City MO is part of a religious network
KDRY Alamo Hts TX (San Antonio) is religious
Neither Dilworth MN nor Grand Junction CO program Dave Ramsey or the other Dr. Laura person.

I have heard this "Talk station" under WTAM overnight as well. My theory is that it is WZFG which is located in Minnesota, just over the stateline from Fargo, ND. Their Daytime power is quite high, but are supposed to be very directional against Cleveland, with very low power, at night.

Here's a link to their night pattern:

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WZFG&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

They are supposed to have 440 watts night power....

The WZFG stream does not match what is OTA. Get to the stream through Radiotime.com.

I'm not able to pick it up here in East Texas (I get KDRY, then WTAM mixing with errant stations from Mexico) but here's what I found: it's listed as a Dave Ramsey affiliate according to his website, which indicates that the show airs 12-3 Eastern. Of course, since it's the holiday season things could be a little different. WCGA is licensed for daytime only and they have post-sunset authority but it's doubtful they use it since it's for only ONE watt. Then again, maybe you really are hearing the full 10kW signal.

That's odd that's listed as a Dave Ramsey affiliate. Most Cox-owned stations seem to carry Cox's financial guy Clark Howard instead.
The Wikipedia listing for WCGA shows them as a Fox News and Salem Radio affiliate, although the station I am hearing is using IRN News, and neither Dave Ramsey nor Dr. Laurie Roth are Salem programs.

I'll be down in SE KY late next week, and in an electrical interference free zone to boot, or as close as one can get to it, so I will be tuning 1100 every chance I get.

Next step.Take some business trips to MO and MN.

I'm surprised some of the FL posters haven't reported in.

I'm about ten miles due west of the WSGI transmitter and right now, (5:15 Saturday evening) WTAM is by far the dominant signal on 1100. There is another station underneath with a female African-American speaker, she may be preaching though she's eliciting quite a bit of laughter from her audience.

You've got me curious, I'll take a swing past Springfield after dinner.

There are a fair number of "frequent offenders" around here, but WSGI isn't one of them.
