Mystery Station on 89.9

The last two nights on my drive home, I have been picking up a station on 89.9. I have not been able to catch an ID, but the station plays mainly big band type music. The first night, I thought I might be picking up a modulator from another car, but I don't think I would pick it up two nights in a row, unless I am following the same car home every night. The signal seems to be strongest in the Donelson/Two Rivers area.
Could it possibly be a new station in Cornersville, TN which is licensed at 13,000 watts?
Thanks.

Buzz...I listened to 89.9 last night late on my way home:
from Music Row out to Percy Priest on 40...all I heard was static...with a few fade-ins of
WSOF in Madisonville, KY (heard a liner clearly about 12:15a). the music I heard was
clearly southern gospel...no big band. The mystery continues...as the Cornersville station
appears to be still a CP...though I haven't searched the FCC site.

Hello romer979fm,

I think the operator cuts the transmitter off overnight. This morning at 7am, on the way to work, it was not on. When I tuned back in at 7:30am, it was on.

It is hard to tell where the signal is originating. It is as strong at my workplace, near the I-65/Dickerson Pike/Briley Parkway Interchange, as it is in Donelson.

The music is not bad. I recognize most of what is played, as my Father listened to that style back in the 50's.

The only reason I noticed it is I have a little CCrane FM Transmitter I use to listen to my music while working in the yard. It has a range of around 150 feet, but now gets interference from "the mystery station". Guess I will have to look for another open channel.

I heard it today (3-9) around noon...around Music Row. Not much of a signal in
most locations on the row...but...if you find just the right spot and stop...it's clean.
Big band and music of the 30's...and at 12:15 a seemingly live voice backselling the last
few tunes...and identifying as "FM 89.9...you home for big band...let's continue"...

over on the avs forum site...someone is convinced it's a pirate.
will see what I hear driving home...
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

"Big band and music of the 30's" sounds like the old record library from WFMG (104.5) up on "Music Mountain" circa 1968......let me know if you hear the "Shell Dinner Hour".. ;D

spotty signal driving home from Music Row...best around Greer Stadium...and behind WKRN (stereo full quieting)...
the farther east I drove on Elm Hill...the worse the signal...pretty much gone at Bell Road. 40 minutes...nothing but music.
no legal ID at 5pm. willl drive in via Lebanon Road today and see how the signal is a bit north.
BTW...listening to this is like listening to an old cartoon...

Delta, If the Shell Dinner Hour is carried, I think you know what this means: We ALL have a new favorite radio station-

driving in this morning...the signal shows up pretty well on Stewart's Ferry as you cross northbound over I-40...strongest on Lebanon Road before McGavock...and around Spence Lane.
however...not strong enough for the transmitter to be in the vicinity: another search likely.
BTW...at 9am...there was a live voice "this is FM 89.9...W-B-A-L...the ballroom dance station" then intro-ing the next tune. pretty much confirms the non-licensed status...

Do you suppose Dance World near Fessler's Lane and I-24-40 have a permit to operate a small trans... or do they have one big Mr. Microphone they use in dance class?

FWIW...I had to go to Inglewood on my way home tonight...strong signal on "The Ballroom Dance Station"
at 8th and Lafayette...picked up again on Woodland near LP...then suddenly...no more chattering or fading on Woodland
at Five Points. I was able to drive for many blocks in that area with a perfect full quieting stereo signal...which then
got noisy as I approached Eastland...and then rapid fading heading north on Gallatin Road. I think we have the location within
a few blocks. Lots of announcer talk tonight...backselling blocks of tunes...and talking up tunes, too. Really?
Verry chatty...with a VERY strong northern accent: imagine Archie Bunker growing up in Boston. And...I heard several drops from a Live365 1930's era dance feed...so he's also pirating the music from the web.

It's been a few years since I've been in Nashville....is this area anywhere near La Vergne?

Thanks for the info. I will definitely check it out. Let me know the url of your website.

I am the same way. I am another old man, 57, and like to play around with my hobby website. It shows traffic cameras, web-cameras and weather from all over Tennessee. Google picked it up and last month it got 108,000 hits. Not bad for a hobby.
Here is the main page, but there are several which make up the website. http://www.buzzcam.net I created it using the Notepad application found on any windows machine. That is why it is so simple.

As to the station on 89.9, according to romer's information, no wonder I can get it both at work, near at the I-65, Dickerson Road and Briley Parkway Interchange, and at home in Donelson. It is so strong in my neighborhood, my little CCrane transmitter can only transmit to the front door, around 8 feet. It used to reach about 150 feet. This is how I found out about the "mystery station".

A friend who works downtown told me he picked it up from work to the Old Hickory Blvd./I-24 Interchange on the way to his house in, as he calls it, "Sprangfiled".
