NAB 2021 Radio Show

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n41047

Update the NAB has cancelled their convention event and moved online due to pandemic concerns.

A lot of people were freaking out about this because the NAB had required that all attendees must show proof of vaccination. But I saw where the City of Las Vegas requires all large gatherings show proof of vaccination, and masks are required in all indoor locations, such as casinos, restaurants, or hotels. The LA Raiders are the only NFL team requiring proof of vaccine to attend a football game. This is not just an NAB thing. Bruno Mars just canceled his residency.

^^^ Not surprising considering the amount of tourists constantly coming and going in Vegas and the sheer amounts of people not only attending events, but even packed on casino floors, moving around a lot from place to place and touching everything from slot machines to casino chips to elevator buttons to hand rails, and it'd be nearly impossible to do much of any semblance of contact tracing. The restrictions may also be a strong reaction to the fact that there was so much criticism of the government there at the beginning of the pandemic, when the casinos, resorts and other properties were given little to no direction or guidance on mandates, capacity reduction or distancing, disinfection requirements and the like.

I hear that NAB as an organization is in financial trouble. They should cut expenses by eliminating the Radio Show, combining all shows into the one Vegas location once per year. Except for the recently cancelled 2021 show of course.
There isn’t enough demand for AM phasors, ATU’s, FM antenna, and audio console manufacturers to justify having a radio-only show anymore.

The reason they're in financial trouble is because they've had to cancel these conventions. The Radio Show makes money, although not as much as the main one. They added the radio show for more revenue. Yes, exhibitors for the radio show are harder to come by, especially with electronics manufacturers. But they've replaced them with content exhibitors and even record labels over the years. You'd be surprised how many radio conventions and conferences take place during a year, and they all attract sponsorships. But yes, transmitters and consoles are not in big demand these days.

The only other major revenue stream for the NAB is memberships, and that's not growing either.
