NASH announces morning show

No doubt that it will be syndicated nationally in a few years.

Try a few months. Just four months after NASH launched here, the branding is officially starting to roll out on the rest of Cumulus' country stations. I would think one of their Nashville stations is going to be the next logical choice to clear both the name, and the show.

I was listening to Nash a little while ago and they are running a teaser mentioning that something new is coming, but they won't say what or when. At this point I think it's safe to assume it's in reference to the new morning show.

As a side note, I noticed Thunder 106 has started using the slogan "Cutting Edge Country". I guess they are trying to differentiate themselves from Nash.

On the eve of the debut of Nash's morning show, they redesigned their website. It had an unusual and attractive appearance, but was not very informative. Now the Nash website looks about the same as those of other Cumulus music stations.

Ugh. What would a Cumulus site be without the Sweetjack plugs and other syndicated content. Blah!

checking out the show right now--the interactions seem smooth and comfortable, Robbin from HLN is on via phone, but apparently will have a proper set up further down the line. The elements are in place, and the sound is tight. I'm still not sold on the genre, as I've said before, but this seems to be a well put together and well planned show. When I tuned in, I caught the end of a conversation between the hosts about mobile phones, which ended up in a conversation about apple's co-founders, which was surprisingly intelligent and informed.

None of these folks are backwoods hayseeds. Obviously Blair, but also the artists. Chuck is from Delaware. No Larry The Cable Guy or "yee haw" types with thick southern accents, and that's important for a radio station, regardless of format, in the northeast.

I wanted to like the new morning show, as it has been a long time since one originated from a country station in New York.
But I had to turn it off after about 45 minutes. It seemed to be a typical morning zoo type program, with several people saying silly things and laughing while chatting with each other. I did not think that Blair Garner's three co-hosts said anything really interesting or amusing. They may be good country singers, but seemed to have little or no radio experience.
Perhaps the show would flow better if it was more music intensive, andjust had Blair Garner, and maybe one co-host (along with the traffic and news reporters). There are no shortage of places on the dial to hear morning zoos.
In fairness, it probably takes time for a rather complex show such as this to hit its stride. I'll check it again in a couple of weeks.

I was listening to the morning show as well. After reading postings here I also wanted to check out the debut on my long trip to NYC. I have to admit I wasn't very impressed as well. Maybe my expectations were higher. The local traffic and weather were solid. I liked Amy Freze but I never heard of her before (I'm not a NY'er) and Jeff McKay is well known from NJ 101.5. At least they chose their weather and traffic people well. The Thunder Country morning show I think is more local and entertaining. I'll definitely give Nash another try though.

I wasn't able to listen today...so there were no interviews? Just the crew talking among themselves?

When I listened, there was a phone call from Kelly Clarkson, who has dabbled in country music. It was also mentioned that there had been a call from the country group Thompson Square.
According to their website, today there was a chat with country singer Hunter Hayes. But I would have expected much more interaction with country stars (aside from the co-hosts in the studio) from Blair Garner, who has probably interviewed virtually all of them on numerous occasions.

I am not sure who this show will please. Fans of morning zoo type shows with chitchat among a group of people in the studio have choices among several other stations. Those programs have been around a long time and are likely a better listen.
Country fans could be unhappy with how little music is now played during the morning hours, and all the silly talk that can be heard elsewhere.

Kellys actually had 2 billboard country #1 songs "because of you" w/reba mcentire & "dont you wanna stay" w/jason aldean + a few other country top 40 songs.

The non-music aspects should be kept to news headlines and Blair Garner doing short interviews, but do a lot of music.

I don't think the supporting cast is necessary, unless there is a news reader, but whose interaction is Garner is limited tom something like:

Garner: And now, Jane Doe with the morning's top news headlines.

Doe: Thanks Blair, and this morning, the Senate is expected to take up Immigration Reform.....

Huh? I would never suggest a music station in NYC lead with such a dull story. That's a WABC or WOR lead story.

It seems odd that this elaborate morning show is rarely mentioned on air during other dayparts on Nash FM. I believe that normally a costly show in morning drive would be promoted quite a bit during the rest of the day.
The morning show really seems to be a bad fit for this market. As there has been no country station for 17 years, and Nash is the only one here, I think listeners would want mostly country music, not silly morning zoo talk accompanied by forced laughter. The fact is that in New York, there are several other stations doing this type of program in the mornings, and do it better.
This leads me to believe that perhaps the show is really intended primarily for syndication in some other markets, that have more than one country station, and less morning zoo type shows to compete with.
If it is to do OK in New York, it seems clear they need to let most of the cohosts go, and perhaps keep the best one (if any can really do radio) to maintain some short banter with host Blair Garner between the songs. And to play more than about 6 tunes an hour. The traffic, weather and news reports are fine, though.

There aren't many markets that fit that description. When you have two country stations, one talky and the other music intensive (all other things equal), music intensive seems to win.

Clear Channel just launched the Bobby Bones Show. It's also a zoo format, very talky, with a younger target than Blair. So if they syndicate Blair, they're likely to go up against Bobby in a lot of markets like Atlanta and Nashville.

If it doesn't fit in NYC, it's also not likely to fit anywhere else.

Nashville would be an example of a market where the leading country station has a chatty morning show.
WSIX FM generally has the best ratings among its country stations. For years they ran the locally produced Gary House Foundation show during mornings. It had a lot of talk, but won several awards, and was very popular. After Gary retired, Clear Channel started the Bobby Bones show as a replacement. It is now being syndicated to a number of other CC country outlets. And many other Clear Channel stations carry Big D & Bubba during mornings.
Perhaps Nash's new morning show is an attempt by Cumulus to have something equivalent.

This certainly seems to be an ambitious effort. Blair Garner will have 4 country music stars as cohosts, and Robin Meade of CNN will be doing twice hourly newscasts. The show will be broadcast out of Nashville before a live audience, with frequent broadcasts from New York.
So it certainly would not be a surprise if America's Morning Show, as it will be called, will eventually be picked up by some of the other Nash stations.
And once the morning show gets going, I would expect more Nash advertising and promotion.

Blair puts most of After Midnite in the can.
