Nash FM

Re: Cumulus confirms WNSH 94.7 and National Brand beyond Radio

One of the most important aspects of having a country station based in New York City is the boost it will give to the entire area country music scene. I would not be surprised at all if new country music clubs and dance halls open, particularly in NJ, based on their ability to promote on Nash FM. There could also be more tours from the major stars coming though the area, for the same reason.

Would this ambitious new event have been offered if there was no NYC country station to promote it? I don't know, but it is an example of the opportunities for cross promotion: http://tasteofcountry.com/2013-music-festival-announcement/

I think it is interesting that Cumulus looks at country music as not simply a format, but as a lifestyle that can promoted through various media.

Some good news about Nash 94.7...

...Based on what Cunulus is telling the national trades, it's going to be live and local. They told AllAccess they're recruiting a PD and live air talent for all dayparts, so they're announcing their intent to do it right with personality presentation instead of making it an automated jukebox.

Re: Some good news about Nash 94.7...

Yes, the comming days they adding DJ's until there is a full line up in about a month, so that's good news. Not waiting weeks before adding jocks, start with that a.s.a.p. to sell the station to listeners. So that's good, non stop music don't sell.

It seems that Nash will be a live and local station. From what I have read, it should be terrific-Quick to break new songs and artists, programmed for New York, but not watered down.
But Erwin, according to the article linked below, on air personalities will only start being heard on air about a month from now. It does take a while to find and hire people who would be a good fit.

DJs matter? What? All I have been reading on various boards is how useless and outdated they are. Kind of like the old school method of maximizing your audience when you flip by having everything all together! I am honestly surprised by all the positive response to NYC having this format. Let's hope Crums lives up to all the hype by creating a true listening experience.

Don't think it takes so long exactly. Whe talking about market nr. 1 not a station in New Orleans or whatever. It's important 'to sell and brand' this station with DJ's to listeners. So listeners become familiar with this new station a.s.a.p. It's a step-by-step procedure I guess.
For example: Lisa Paige was 92.3 Now FM's first DJ a couple of days after the launch of that station, far even before they decide who's doing the morning shift, so I think Cumulus going to fill there schedule step-by-step.

Nash has a couple of things going for it that the old NY Country stations didn't have. Sister stations that can offer "value added" spots to Nash. Plus Cumulus is selling national spots that will now air in New York City on another signal. Also going jockless for a format that has been missing for about 16 years probably won't have that much of a negative impact. If a Country fan is still listening to terrestrial radio, he or she will love the fact that there is a station. What's the real alternative? Jockless internet country radio or a couple of voicetracked breaks an hour on a satellite country format?

Don Barrett still maintains the LARadio.com website but only for occasional postings of major news stories and the "Where are they now" pages. (I was a columnist on the site for nine years.) He posted an article about Nash but had the dial position as 97.4. I wrote him to say it was 94.7. He corrected it but wrote back, "Strange. That was in their press release." So Cumulus sent out a press release with the wrong dial position. Brilliant!

Everyone knows that you cannot become a billionaire radio mogul by only owning frequencies ending in odd numbers....94.1, 94.3...

NASH ON BBC

Still being referred to by current call letters WRXP, the arrival of Nash in NYC just received five minutes of coverage on the World Business Report on BBC World Service radio out of London, as being a symbol of the current rise in the fortunes of country music.

Asked by the BBC interviewer whether listeners in the Big Apple will take a shine to sad songs about “dead dogs and lonesome trains”, Cumulus market manager Kim Bryant assured the BBC interviewer that “the format will not touch on Hee Haw” but that country icons such as Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves are present as “inspirations” to the breed of modern-day mainstream country artists being featured.

Not my cup of tea, I’m afraid.

@MarkO: Wow. That is unreal... The BBC World Service making reference to "WRXP" in a report! :D

I can't even imagine how many on-air and promotion jobs in radio this whole "Nash FM" gig is going to kill......

Welcome to the future. By the same token, it will create some new opportunities.

Asked by the BBC interviewer whether listeners in the Big Apple will take a shine to sad songs about “dead dogs and lonesome trains”,

If that was an actual question, it shows a lack of knowledge and prep for the interview.

When is the last time you heard a pop love song with positive lyrics? I can name several country songs.

and .....there are those great hip hop love ballads, and my favorite alternative ballad "I want to F** like a animal. ::)

Yep now I'm gonna be Locked Out Of Heaven because You Knew I was Trouble ;D

enough said.

There may be hope.

Good point....if anyone knows about lonesome trains, it's people in NYC. I spent a long time on those lonesome trains commuting to work.

I actually like the website. It is different, and it doesn't look like the typical corporate generic radio website.

Keep in mind it's temporary. No advertising, no real content, just a bunch of links.

Once they get metrics, it'll get filled with ads. Once they have staff, it'll get filled with content.

Re: Commercials On Nash-FM?

They don't announce a 10.000 songs in row and commercial free period-thing, so I don't think it take so long before the first commercials are on and the DJ's are on board. It's a question of days...

Right because its NYC ya gotta hit the ground running
