Another shining example of the corruption-loving pundits of talk radio, mirroring the practices of the Bush syndicate.

Excellent Observation. I'm from out of the market, so I am unfamiliar with these hosts and stations. This is precisely the first thought that came into my head when I heard about them recalculating the ratings based on a whopping six whole diaries. I think this proves that Arbitron is innacurate and does not take a big enough survey to get accurate numbers. If the survey was really the appropriate size, these six diaries wouldn't make much of a difference at all.
I am not condoning what these people did. I am just pointing out what I have suspected all along that Arbitron is not acurate because their sample pool is too small.
I agreee that Arbitron isn't the best system in the world. No one single person should represent 640 other people. It's quite insane when you think about it. Very valid point there. But the point on the table is that we have a media savy household. The wife lies about how many people are in the house to begin with. Then she also lies when they ask her if her family is affiliated with anyone in the media. So far her truth record is Zero for two. She lied twice in just that short phone call with Arbitron. Then the diaries show up at the house and she intentionally writes down bad information in all those diariues. That's lie number 3. Then Mr. Depetro continues the lies by telling people that he had no idea what his wife was doing. So far the lie count is up to 4. Did I miss anything???? I'm certain that I have.
I have always respected WPRO for being on top. But now I'm going to question how much on top they really are. More importantly advertisers are now going to question them too. This scanal is pissing off all the wrong people. Check out Citadels stock price. They can't afford this kind of bad publicity. It will be the nail in the coffin.

One other thought...as an AM Drive host he almost assuredly has ratings bonuses based on A25-54 rank. The tampering took him up to #4, I think it was, which must have put at least a couple of thousand dollars in his pocket, certainly more than he would have got for #9 (I didn't realize they had 9th place ribbons, Fokker).
Did he commit fraud to "earn" that money?
Ugly story. I just can't believe he could be that dumb. I feel sorry for all involved.

I'm thinking that Depetro was just trying to make sure he had good enough numbers where he wouldn't be fired this Christmas. Because as you all know by now, this is when Radio stations like to fire people. During the part of the year that should be about peace, joy and love. Stations are great at ruining the holidays for it's employees. Back in the old days you would get a Christmas party. But now the gift from the station is you getting to keep your job!
In any event.... you are right. Maybe Depetro was trying to score some bonuses too. This scandal could go deeper than any of us even realize. Either way it's only going to get more and more ugly for Depetro. He screwed up bad this time.

Hey genius-there's not a shred of evidence that what you say is true. Any more then there is evidence the corrupt, fat, mincing, lisping freak of a mayor knew his brother was involved in municipal corruption.

I'm not even going to jump into the "who's right and who's wrong" fray. These knuckleheads didn't even know how to game the system. What the hell is the matter with these people? You can tell they don't have an ounce of radio saavy. You NEVER request six diaries and fill each of them out in the same age cell.
Six diaries in one household, all in the 18-34 demo?! It's an automatic flag at Arbitron HQ. And if the mooks at Arbitron don't catch it, you can bet your comeptition is going to catch it because it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Any radio dork (like me) with half a brain would have used only two or three diaries and logged two in the 45-54 (male-female) cell and the third in the 25-34 cell (male). The listening should have been staggered and with a minimum of duplication outside of morning drive, and even then, it would be inconsistent, day to day.
I've never gamed the system, but I've read enough about it from reserach and Arbitron pros to know that there are things that you can do to pad your numbers and things that just jump off the page and say "we cheated.".

Tonights news coverage on 10 and 6 respectively was crippling to WPRO. Now the criminal felon Cianci has a man who warms his chair commiting FRAUD . What an Ethical place WPRO is. I' guess we have to wait for Dan Yorke to assault his producer Tony. You All may as well be criminals there .
