NBC: $223M loss on Winter Olympics

It's not surprising given their coverage on the prime network. NBC's idea of Olympic coverage apparently consists of putting Costas in front of a camera and letting him drone on...and on....and on.

It'll be interesting to see how this effects the bidding for future Olympics. I wonder if we'll ever see a splitting of the Olympics between networks? I doubt it as I can't think of a way to split them up that would satisfy everyone but perhaps?

NBC's logic behind "LIVE Olympic Coverage" consisted of tape delaying the coverage of events held in the same time zone they occurred. Absolutely stupid and unnecessary. I didn't watch many events because I knew the results hours previous. It was almost impossible to avoid spoilers unless I kept myself in a Cone of Silence for 2 weeks straight.

I didn't care too much for the olymics this year. I also thought that the Winter Olympics were better when CBS had them. I always remembered NBC having the Summer Olympics (which I rarely watched anyway). At least with WMAQ in Chicago, it didn't help that there wasn't enough bandwidth to handle running the main channel in 1080i, local weather radar, & Universal Sports. They did adjust it by taking bandwidth from the radar to compensate for some of the fast action. But for someone who watches TV with a DTV box & analog TV, that it still looked like crap. I don't know if WNDU in South Bend Indiana had any problems with the olympics coverage. They solved bandwidth issues by shutting off their SD simulcast during the olympics. I wonder about other markets.

And don't to forget to add Conan's $30-40 million severence package. Them NBC boys sure know how to throw money away. Can't wait to see Comcast come in and clean house.

There was almost zero buzz about the Vancouver Olympics, except for the good showing of the U.S. hockey team. The lack of any prominent U.S. figure skaters also helped kill interest.

The Olympics have become much too bloated and expensive, and could use a budget cutback. Not worth the amount of money television has thrown at them.

Definitely agree with you on that. I did find his commentary very tedious to listen to. Thankfully, he didn't speak so much during the closing ceremony. That was the least of NBC's problems when it came to how they handled the closing ceremony.

that last minute cutin on the closings with that crap marriage reality crap was stupid on NBC.personally I enjoyed this olympics,I guess I was the only viewer.Lets see who bids on the next winter olympics ABC,CBS,FOX. Probably If ABC get it ESPN family will probably will carry the bulk of it.
