NBC airing Macy's Parade Twice

Also, in recent years they have been running the Macy's parade in New York as well, but from Times Square and just call it the Thanksgiving day parade. I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that NBC has the exclusive rights to use the Macy's name.

NBC has had exclusive rights to use the Macy's name since 1952. But since the parade is on a public street, Macy's can't stop CBS or anyone else from covering it from another location away from Macy's. CBS has been broadcasting the Macy's parade without authorization for decades.

That made me think I wonder if there are any Macy's ads on the CBS parade. :D

I'll guess not, because of their agreement with NBC.

From around New England:

WVIT 30 O&O Hartford, CT - Parade Rebroadcast 2PM-5PM

WWLP 22 LIN-TV Springfield, Mass
2PM The Spirit of Christmas
3PM Dr. Phil
4PM Judge Judy x 2

WJAR 10 Media General Providence, RI - Parade Rebroadcast 2PM-5PM

WHDH 7 Sunbeam Television - Boston, MA - Parade Rebroadcast 2PM-5PM

WPTZ 5/WNNE 31 Hearst TV Plattsburgh NY/White River Junction VT - Parade Rebroadcast 2PM-5PM

Will there be a live stream for west coasters or is this something that must be delayed?

I looked up listings for L.A., S.F., SMF and Vegas, and they're all running it at 9 AM PT
(delayed).

I guess the Today Show must air weekdays between 7-9 AM everywhere!

Why would Macys want to stop CBS from covering it? That free pub is worth $$$.

The listings seem to vary what is actually shown for WESH

According to Titan TV for WESH

2 PM - Miracle on 34th Street
4 PM - WESH 2 News @ 4

According to Zap2It

2 PM - Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (rebroadcast)

In Honolulu, KHNL will air the parade at 9AM Hawaii Time, followed by the Dog Show at 12 Noon, "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" at 2PM, NBC Nightly News at 2:30, Football Night in America at 3PM, Jets Vs. Patriots at 3:30PM, "ET" at 6:30, and "The Natural" (Movie) at 7PM.

Watch CBS replay their own Thanksgiving parade next.

CBS has the NFL game from Detroit on Thanksgiving afternoons, and as long as they have it a repeat of the parade probably won't happen. Also, in recent years they have been running the Macy's parade in New York as well, but from Times Square and just call it the Thanksgiving day parade. I used to watch CBS when I would go with my father to eat at the cafeteria, but now I tape the NBC parade since CBS doesn't show the whole thing. Also, I can zap those musical performances that aren't appropriate for the parade environment. Marching bands or traditional Broadway, please! CBS also used to have excerpts from the Hawaii parade (it just wasn't Thanksgiving without hula dancers) and after the Macy's parade passed Columbus Circle they would switch to Nashville or Detroit. Maybe both.

Charlotte has a parade which one of the largest but it's only shown locally, on a tape delay. The time depends on when the game is on since the CBS affiliate has shown it as long as it has been televised.

One thing I don't like about the parade is the *LIP-SYNCING!* When there is a performer other than a Broadway group, they lip sync to a recording of the song. Cheap or what?

How long has it been that CBS has stopped showing parades from other cities and only shown the Macy's parade in New York? I really hadn't watched the Thanksgiving parades for several years until my daughter got old enough to be interested in the last 5 years or so.

Same story in Seattle. "Live" parade at 9, then O'Hurley and the Dogs for lunch, then the usual afternoon talkers. No parade replay here - at present. Checking the affiliate sites for Portland and Tri-Cities (Pasco), the Parade replay is set to air.
Ditto in Denver as well - "Live" Parade @ 9:00, Dogs for lunch & parade replay by 2:00 PM. I suspect the schedules for KOAA & KKCO (The other two NBC affiliates in Colorado) will be the same (I'd be surprised if they weren't)

Wouldn't it make more sense for KHNL to run Brian Williams (Assuming he'll be at the desk) at 6:30 PM or immediately after the game?

In an even more bizarre twist, I would imagine KUAM 8 on Guam would likely be stuck airing the entire NBC lineup on Friday November 23rd (Or the wee hours of the morning Thanksgiving Night)

Cheers & 73 :D

That airing of Miracle on 34th Street has been around since dirt. It's sad that tradition is over...

-crainbebo

is it in the public domain?
No.
And won't be as long as 20th Century Fox Studios is still around.....

Cheers & 73 :D

why isn't Fox airing instead? Probably the same reasons why they don't air Home Alone on Thanksgiving anymore

The NBC affiliate in Detroit airs the Detroit parade. I'm sure other markets air a local parade so this could be a way that NBC clears this in all markets.

I just meant that CBS can't use the Macy's name in their broadcast of the parade, not that Macy's would stop them from carrying it.

I don't like that simply because the music is garbage.
