NBC Cancels "Paul Reiser Show" After Two Episodes

Well, I'm glad I didn't try it. I liked "My Two Dads", but for Staci Keanan and Greg Evigan. I tolerated a few episodes of "Mad About You". Helen Hunt reminds me a lot of Audrey on "Rules of Engagement".

Ok.....This show would not have won an Emmy but cancel it after two weeks.......give me a break........how do you explain all those other Thursday night delights on NBC staying on air with pathetic ratings.......??????????????????/......memo to NBC.... cancel the entire evening and run a test pattern........................
Are you kidding? "Community" is outrageous.

"30 Rock" is even wilder.

The Thursday NBC lineup may be very funny, however here are the numbers: (from TV By The Numbers)

Community (97% coverage NBC normally 98%)
- 3.166 million viewers
- 2.1/4 HH
- 1.4/5 A18-49

The Paul Reiser Show (97% coverage)
- 2.377 million viewers
- 1.6/3 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49

The Office (31 minutes, 97% coverage)
- 6.849 million viewers
- 4.0/6 HH
- 3.3/10 A18-49

Parks and Recreation (29 minutes, 97% coverage)
- 4.882 million viewers
- 2.9/5 HH
- 2.4/6 A18-49

30 Rock (60 Minutes)
- 4.595 million viewers
- 2.7/5 HH
- 2.2/6 A18-49

None of these shows turned up in the top 25 for total viewers......The best rated show was the Office......

Most of these shows normally show up 70 or below...........

I can't explain it - but I think they're funny. After 3 decades of primarily typical TV sitcoms with their predictable pattern of: set up - punchline - hysterical laughter - I find the NBC shows to be a breath of fresh air. There are some other examples - Raising Hope on Fox, and Modern Family on ABC are two others.

Unfortunately, the NBC Thursday comedy line-up is "too hip for the room." Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock are absolutely hilarious, just not for the masses. They would've worked better on premium cable but I'm glad NBC tried it anyway. BTW, NBC is still making money on these shows, selling them to advertisers looking for a narrow audience segment.

I'm surprised reruns of those shows haven't ended up on basic cable yet, like most everything else on broadcast TV.

Outside of the first week or so of the league's existence - you know, curiosity cume - possibly... then again, I never thought anything could top (for lack of a better term) "Manimal."

But, now that Comcast is owning NBC, Comcast might air/move those types of shows to cable, or atleast try new shows of that nature there, and bring back the mass market type stuff for NBC. It might just wind up as young actors on laugh track based shows, where the character storylines are based on dating/sleep around with each other, formulaic dramas, and more reality television.

It would be great if something on the Cosby/Family Ties/Roseanne caliber for reaching larger audiences could come back to network tv, but crap is just easier to find.
