NBC's Coverage of 2021 Tokyo Olympics and Qualifiers

Not exactly like that, but does anyone remember 1980? Yes, apples and oranges but the US boycotted those Olympics.
The Moscow Games. And the Soviet Bloc and sympathetic nations boycotted Los Angeles four years later in retaliation. I believe a makeshift syndicated network was set up to show at least portions of the Moscow Olympics to American viewers, but ABC (the de facto Olympic network in those years) stayed away from those Games completely, basically pretending they didn't exist.

The networks will soon be Traving to Games like Sunday night Play by Play guys for ESPN. NBA Countdown crew back live at Western Conference finals Even with Atlanta in Eastern Conference Finals TBS Studio Crew and Pre and Post cost Game NBATV live at Arena and can send a crew to cover Western Conference Finals to NBATV. Also when get to NBA Finals do post-game Sportscenter live with Scott Van Pelt as one of host with Everett hosting when Games are on West Coast and when on East Coast Anderson if Bucks get in.
Also for Stanley Cup trial run a set for Levy,Melrose and so on.

Just says for Summer Olympics Mayne and nothing about NBC hiring him permanently.

Huh? NBC had the U.S. TV rights to the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, and wound up not showing them anywhere. All we saw was a few highlights on the news.

Is there a translation?

Is there a translation?
We are likely dealing with an ESL situation, but that post is totally unfathomable. I think the poster had some interesting insights about the broadcasts but the writing hides them pretty well.

This thread has become unreadable. Writing posts in proper English would be helpful.
As someone very familiar with ESL messages, learning to read them is a developed skill; my technique is to translate backwards, literally. Then it makes sense.

I'm reminded that most of the population of the planet does not speak English, but this particular post was tougher than most.

Backwards, upside down, even sideways, the sentence about the NHL -- "Also for Stanley Cup trial run a set for Levy,Melrose and so on." -- is incomprehensible.

No in past like before Virus Levy and Melrose had to stand in front of a wall but at least at World Series Ravech and guys have a set.

OK, at the risk of offending you... and recognizing that English may not be your first tongue... can you please read over your posts before clicking and try to make them understandable? This last one makes no sense to me at all. Please?

I think he's trying to say that pre-COVID, NBC had its NHL announcing team seated at a table but, for whatever reason -- probably "abundance of caution," that repugnant, burnt out pandemic cliche -- has made them stand in front of a backdrop since the NHL resumed play last year.

I'm unsure what effect standing or sitting would have but for the duration of the playoffs the between-period hosts have always been seated. Before the game, when the play-by-play and color guys are doing their pre-game analysis they are usually standing with the ice surface in the background.

I never realized there was so much subtlety in broadcasting!

My issue with NBC's coverage of the Olympics every few years is similar to the gripe I have about their NFL broadcasts: While every single athlete who's competing has worked very hard and excelled above others to get there, NBC often concentrates on just a few select athletes and doesn't speak much at all about many others who are there representing the US. A few nights ago we were watching the track & field qualifiers, and a guy lost his shoe and ended up coming in 5th. Rather than interviewing the winner of that particular heat, they interviewed the guy who came in 5th. During the next heat, they had a closeup of the guy who'd finished 5th in the previous heat after losing his shoe, and after the next heat was run, they didn't highlight or speak with anyone in that race, including the clear winner, instead going back to talk again to the 5th place guy from the earlier race. A few years ago they did similar, concentrating and repeatedly showing the faces of only maybe 1/2 dozen or fewer US athletes during the opening ceremony, and more or less disregarding the others who'd worked just as hard to get there.

During one Olympics in particular, they concentrated on one athlete's story as he'd recently lost his brother. As soon as his event was over, someone from NBC Sports ran over, stuck a mic in the guy's face and started asking questions about his dead relative, if he thought he was with him that day, etc. They guy soon doubled over and was weeping bitterly, obviously trying to move out of the way of the camera. The reporter continued to pepper the poor guy with questions about how he was feeling and the dead relative as he lay there crying because of the memories that particular NBC staffer had already conjured up. It was brutal, to the point that many viewers complained, and if I recall correctly, the reporter in question was booted off the coverage.
