NBC's News and Information Service - 1st Hour

I have finally gotten my aircheck of NNIS copied and I have uploaded the first hour for anyone to download and listen to. I was going to upload the other two hours, but, I thought I'd find out how many people wanted this item.

KRUX Glendale was the first to sign up for NNIS when it was announced (it was in Broadcasting magazine). It is only by coincidence that that was the station I was able to record.

The first hour of NNIS was 6-7 am EDT, June 18, 1975. Here in Arizona, we don't use DST so hour 6 am New York Time is 3 am Mountain Standard Time, which is the same as Pacific Daylight Time.

KRUX 1360 kHz 5000 watts day/500 watts directional nightime (at that time).

here is the link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ibaacd

Please let me know on this board if you are interested in this file and are downloading it. There had been interest expressed before, but I want to know if the interest is still there.

Happy listening.
Mike

Mike, count me in as someone who is interested in the NIS airchecks. I am downloading the aircheck as I type this.

The first time I heard the NIS was on the old WRR-AM Dallas (1310 kHz) while I was on a Texas vacation in September 1975.

If you're interested, there is a recording of the last hour of the NIS taken from Louisville, KY WNNS. The link to the page with the .mp3's can be found here:

Thanks, Mike! I finally got a chance to listen to it over the weekend. Loved hearing the NIS anchor tell the reporter "Hang on the line, the tape room wants you."

I went to work at KRUX, right after it dropped all-news and returned to Top-40, in 1976. They even tore out the news studios and rebuilt them to their previous Top-40 configuration, including the batman hotline floodlight, which the engineer had saved in hopes that it would be needed again.

Mike, please activate the link so I can listen to the Glendale station broadcasting the News and Information Service. Again, thank you!
