NCAA Finals Ratings Down

The short version is the TV ratings for the NCAA Final were down, but not down as much as other sports:

The theory is that because Baylor took the lead early, people tuned away.

And you're surprised? Really? The semis always have lower ratings than the final. Word of mouth -- "Hey, there's a great game on CBS now! You watching?" -- can only add so many viewers to an event that many people had decided to skip in favor of something else that night.

Everything, since COVID-19 began, has gone down...I didn't watch a single minute of the NCAA games. I've watched very little TV since April/May 2020 in general. The last sports event I watched was part of a Mariners game Friday night, but I was eating in a restaurant (they have reopened again at 50%). The last sports event I watched at home was Super Bowl LV.
I haven't watched any primetime shows in months, either.

I thought that was a great performance. Should have been the superbowl halftime.
I'm watching it right now. Love the way her voice sounds now -- deeper, darker, more "lived-in," still a very powerful instrument. Wish she'd done more of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" than just a few lines, though.

I've always wished she'd have given country a try, but can't argue with her pop success, and being the daughter of Billy Ray might have hurt her with country fans -- BRC never got much respect, even though several of his post-"Achy Breaky Heart" hits had a lot of quality to them. ("Words By Heart" for instance.)

Find her interview on Stern, she sang a few songs. She really broke away from her Disney days and into a true artist.

Opinions differ. Many people thought it was dreadful. She clearly wasn't Lip Synching.

The networks always feel the need to create spectacle. It's understandable for Super Bowl halftime, but this was needless. It's like a second rate cover band at the local pub...

Who are many people? She was singing live. She isn't one of those pop stars that needs a backing track to perform.

The main reason is it was sponsored. Easy to get additional sponsorship for things like this.

What cover bands at local pubs have stage shows like that?
Obviously, you are fan of Cyrus. That's great if you enjoyed it.

Many people thought it sucked. I was not impressed. Doesn't she have her own material? It was like a bad contestant on American Idol...

"Many people" = "My friends and I"? That's usually the case, especially here on the internet. And usually some of those friends don't really share your opinion. You're merely the loudest voice in the room and they don't think it's worth the time or aggravation to challenge your opinion on a peripheral topic like that, assuming that your friends and you were primarily interested in the basketball games being played that night and not what CBS aired between them.

And yes, she did some of her own material during that set. She only had 17 minutes to work with, so most songs were a verse and a chorus and that was it.

I'm not a fan of Cyrus, but I know good music when I hear it. That was a great version of some iconic songs. Why do you hate great rock music?

Before "Achy Breaky Heart", the first song I ever heard him do was "Some Gave All". He deserves respect for that one.

Being associated with Lil Nas X certainly couldn't have been a positive thing for him, though I will admit his part of that song sounds good.
