One footnote regarding Neil Rodger's, the guy was legendary no doubt about it, and when he was on air no whole's bared, Neil had everybody in his cross hair's, but if Neil could come back for one finale radio show, his topic, and I know he'd get a kick out of it, one finale laugh for Neil, "Hi I'm Neil Rodger's, I'm Jewish, and Yes I died on Christmas Eve," For Neil, and all of us, that would have been his best show ever..........!

I thought exactly the same thing, how ironic it is.

When I vacationed in SoFlo in the 80s and 90s, listening to Neil Rogers was part of my itinerary. He was laugh out loud funny! Had he wanted to be in New York, he could've given Howard Stern some stiff competition!

The biggest thrill of all my radio misadventures is that Neil played some of my comedy bits on the air, starting way back on WINZ. I was the second (or maybe third) banana on a well-forgotten Hot105 morning show, and we cooked up a bit called "Neil Rogers Disease" -- an ailment that causes you to talk like Neil. Acting on a bizarre impulse, I took a dub of that bit (on reel-to-reel, of course) over to the WINZ studios and handed it to his then-producer, the late Glen "the Bird" Hill.

I thought he'd start ripping us a new one the moment he heard it. But while I was driving home to North Palm Beach, he played it on air, found it funny and said some nice things about our stupid show. Until I left Florida ten years later, I continued to send bits to Neil while trying to elbow aside Guitar Man and Boca Brian. I'm very proud to have been a tiny part of the Neil Rogers Shows from WINZ to Zeta (where he did mornings and crushed us!) to 'IOD and 'QAM. There's no way to express how much I'm gonna miss that guy. I think he may be the last of the truly great, resolutely local and entertaining people in the business.

As hard as it is to do justice to a man so complicated and multifaceted, for me there's a way to sum him up in two words:
Un.....
Believable.

Great post Jim, and also, very entertaining phone call you had with Jorge and Brian earlier today on SoFloRadio. It's great to hear so many stories from the past that previously hadn't been told.
